Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

Whole world is working on just information. Information is wealth. Please ensure wealth is not stealed but used for right purposes. The idea of digitization itself has many advantages clubbed with disadvantages, which keeps changing every day as the technology evolves, new threats evolve. My suggestion would be that Govt. has to take inputs from Pvt. firms which deal with huge data and understand the pit falls to strengthen the Digital Locker System. Finally it is an awesome initiative :)

respected sir .the same strategy can use for wifi .we can provide 4 wifi provider in 4 region that is east, west, north and south. for each region their should be one provider only.when they start their service each passenger when they start internet on their laptop or tab they saw their advt. for 30sec or 1 minute.and for this cement companies or fmcg companies will take interest who spend thousands of crore in advt.or they can agree on high density area.so we can use that money in semi urban.

Good initiative. But this should be handled as a very crucial matter. The security of such data is very important. What measures are taken to do the same? The organisation handling the same will not misuse it in any way. "We have very poor faith in this regard." How will the data stored in this will be accessible to departments?
