The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006, is a significant legislation that aims to promote and develop MSMEs in India. Over the years, the Act has undergone several amendments to address emerging challenges and opportunities. Here are some key amendments and their implications: 1. *Definition of MSMEs*: The Act initially defined MSMEs based on investment in plant and machinery. However, the definition was revised in 2015 to include turnover-based criteria, making it more inclusive. 2. *Classification of MSMEs*: The Act categorizes MSMEs into micro, small, and medium enterprises based on their investment and turnover. This classification helps determine eligibility for various schemes and benefits. 3. *Registration and Udyam Registration*: The Act introduced the concept of Udyam Registration, a free and online process for MSMEs to register and avail benefits. 4. *Delayed Payment*: The Act addresses the issue of delayed payments .
