Electronic waste (e-waste) creates a global crisis due to environmental degradation. India, as a growing economy, is facing serious challenges in managing the volume of generated e-waste due to lack of environmental awareness and socio-economic issues. Major concern of e-waste management in India is its recycling undertaken by non-formal sector not adhering to health and environmental norms.

While e-waste poses a problem for the environment it is also a source of valuable resources and contains a number of precious metal and mineral resources, which are available in very limited quantities in nature.

While Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change is involved in enacting laws, guidelines referring to e-waste and has formulated the E-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2010 wrt safe handling of e-waste, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has addressed indigenous technology development through its R&D efforts to recycle e-waste and extract pressure resources following environment and health norms.

In this direction DeitY has initiated a demonstration plant to showcase its developed technology of processing printed circuit boards (PCB) to recover precious metals at Bangalore. DeitY also proposes to provide capital subsidy to authorized recyclers for processing e-waste similar to support available under the M-SIPS scheme of DeitY. Further recyclers using indigenous technology could be given additional advantage.

DeitY seeks views and suggestion to address the e-waste issues both in term of technology development as well as policy initiatives.

Comments should be received by 10th February, 2015.

When ever we talk about waste. biggest threat is plastic and also using paper products is not advisable.. in Old days we use to use only cloth made bags, durable and also washable and strong.... but later out of fashion stopped using them.. if we can push to retailers to use cloth bags (specially cotton) it will help in a big way and also promote it.

stray animals can be trained and put to tasks for safety also stray cows are a pity ....cows give us milk but if they eat and live in unhygienic conditions it would affect us in return...cows can also be fed daily domestic waste of kitchen as that helps generate healthy mmilk

We need to ackowledge the waste and dirt created by domesticated as well as stray animals on streets everyday...not only are stray dogs and monkeys a very big threat while travelling but also are careers of infrctions..All around the world there are rules for making ur pets poo on the street people take pains of carrying waste bags and poo picking tools...why not in our country ?? I feel we all should be responsible for the filth created by our pets it should not create a problem for residents

Pilgrims generate a lot of waste in Hill Pilgrimage, particularly Sri Amarnath Ji, Vaishno Devi, Badri-Kedar, all of these places have Shrine Boards and immense funds, they must take up waste management on TOP PRIORITY. Particularly all the Bhandaras on Amarnath leave a lot of waste on whole of route which is extremely dangerous for the Ecology, it should be ensured by the Shrine Board that these self help groups are made to bring this waste back to the plains for proper disposal.

we can create a museum of things created out of such waste or even launch a exhibition . And from e waste the metals we get can be distributed to different people like metal to tool makers , aluminium to science students for research and so on . thus utilizing waste and creation of new industry of RECYCLE PRODUCT . and art of these kind of products is growing and attracting trend among youth. eg the tiger in make in india in republic day was attracting point but even more if e waste was used.
