The exogenous causes change the character of wetlands and it turn unfunctional. The species live on them stop to a halt. So wetlands and biodiversity, two strong pillars, should be constructed with durable cement. This cement is positively our conscious contribution.

Take one positive example from Bawal Industrial Area. Here villagers have cleaned and rejuvenated the dirty ponds with the help of industries around using their CSR funds. Greenery of the area is restored and many varieties of birds can be seen. The change can be realised by anyone who visits the area after 2-3 years.

Just have a look at Dharuhera Industrial Area. The whole Industrial area is like an island with effluent on all sides. Roads filled with dirty water. The whole place is stinking. Can we call it wetland as several varieties of birds and cranes can be seen. Perhaps yes, if the dirty water is removed and if whole area is filled with treated water.

Wetlands play an important role in keeping balance of suitable biodiversity. It gives peaceful shelter to many species. The exact mathematics comes wrong when a disequilibrium arises between wetlands and species. Let the mathematics go in a straight and good direction. Everybody must be conscious and interested about the management of wetlands to keep biodiversity in balancing control.

Untreated waste water going directly into rivers, lakes or ponds shall be stopped. It is responsibility of civic authorities. CPCB keeps eyes closed in such big defaulter cases but running after small violations. Most Common effluent treatment plants are non functional in Industrial areas. Who is responsible?

It is to be known that there is difference in wetland and stagnated water. In cities, there are many low lying areas where dirty water gets accumulated and gives foul smell. It can not be called wetland. Overflowing drains creating muck on roadside can not be called marsh land. It is another story that wetland is filled with untreated drain water by local authorities and local industries in complete violation of CPCB norms.

Government must sustain the periodical monitoring of westland management which is deeply related to proper biodiversity. The persons should also be aware who are dependent on wetlands. Biodiversity may not be imagined without the existence of wetlands.
