As the Indian population continues to grow there will be an immense competition for natural resources while achieving food, nutritional, environmental and livelihood security in the country. In addition, the negative consequences of climate change become more evident in agriculture with exploitation of natural resources, decline in soil fertility, ground water levels to meet the ever increasing demands for food and nutritional requirements. To maintain sustainable balance between natural resources and the demand, immediate attention is needed in several areas viz., imbalanced use of fertilizers, declining soil organic carbon, lowering of water table, soil health, organic farming and climate change impact in agriculture sector.

Recent studies on soil biodiversity, rapid composting techniques, use of bio-filters for removal of heavy metals from compost, application of Nano sensors in agriculture to improve nutrient use efficiency, need based fortification of micro nutrients; availability of soil health card, conservation agriculture for enhancing soil health etc. will support sustainable management of natural resources in agriculture.

With a particular focus on scientific and technical understanding of natural resources management, this portal tries to incorporate stakeholders suggestions in achieving sustainable natural resources management.

Some help to resolve the water crisis can be taken from past. Some trees like 'Banjh' tree in Garhwal region of Uttrakhand are known for their ability to conserve water and have been used in past to restoration of waterfalls. Similarly in Rajasthan 'Bawli' system was used. Some of them also exist in Delhi. If recharged these Bawlies can solve some problem of potable water. Our ancient temples have water tanks where the water was conserved for dry season. Think how can we contribute today??

Flowing over the loose soil, rain water carries with it valuable minerals leaving the land unarable. Excessive water leads to land slides as well. Use of Rain water harvesting can curb this problem.

According to Central Ground Water Board the water tables in India have dwindled drastically. The extraction of ground water exceeds the input. With much ground getting covered under concrete and mortar the rain water is unable to reach under ground and is wasted in drains. A suitable solution to this problem could be compulsory Rain water harvesting (RWH)in all houses and public places including highways and the like. For smaller houses community RWH should be used.
