Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Thousands of litre water get wasted every day by housing society and houses to check roof tank is full or not. I think govt should start distributing low cost alarm system so that water can be saved. It happens in 80% societies. Govt should impose fine when society don't have such systems. Wash basin on flush tank can be good idea where dirty water can be used for flush. Govt should take strict action who waste water but they should provide the solution for. Regards Vinay8484

In a Tamil MGR film "Thirudadhey" a song wrten by Pattukottai Kalyanasundaram starting with "Thirudadhey papa".In that a line "Thirudanaa Paarthu Thirundhaa vittaal Thiruttai Ozhikka Mudiyaadhu."means unless the thief himslf realize & change his attitude, thieft cant be eradicated(zeroed). As such each & evry human shd realize the severity of water scarcity & have self-responsblty to save water. Bt at the same time the govt can save some thousand liters of by having sealed water tanker lorries.

Water is an essential resource and hence, should be used very carefully without wastage. Government can arrange water meter in each society/house to check the usage of water as this resource is decreasing due to slack rainfall

SIMPLE WATER LEVEL SENSORS FOR ALL TANKS(SINTEX) IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND FACTORIES TO PREVENT WASTAGE OF WATER. AN ALARM WILL MAKE SURE TANKS 1,2, AND SO ON ARE FULL... AND THUS RESPECTIVE SWITCHES SHOULD BE TURND OFF. NO MONEY FOR DRINKING WTR SEPARATE METERS HVING A MAX.OF CERTAIN READINGS FOR A MONTH EXCEEDING WHICH WATER SHOULD BE FINED AT SIMPLE INT. AND IF CONTINUED REGARDLESS OF NOTICES.. PUT COMPOUND INTEREST.. PEOPLE ONLY UNDERSTAND WHEN THEY HAVE TO PAY MONEY...

Pranams, We have recurring issues of frequent floods and also droughts in some part of the country or the other. Besides these two, we have fast depleting water table contributing to severe water shortages making life unlivable. Attached is a small idea on recharging the ground water while simultaneously addressing the drought and flood challenges. It is a one page document but cannot type it here because of character constraints. The same should be implemented through community partcipation.

Water wastage in Metropolitan is much higher than rural area, and so shortage is also present. Govt launch LED scheme to save energy. Similarly govt should promote the usage of Automatic water level sensor by educating people spcly womens and giving subsidy on sensors in Metro cities so that water can be saved. Generally we use Motor to fill our tanks and than forgot to close if we use water sensor it will give alarm and save water.
