Water is a vital resource for life, and for the economy. Nowadays, one of the most serious challenges to solve and manage the water scarcity. With the depletion of water resources, the demand for quality water is increasing day by day. Water utilities are under pressure to provide good quality water, but are struggling with their outdated infrastructure at the same time. Furthermore, one of the major concerns of water utilities is the increasing wastage and pollution of water bodies caused due to metering errors, leaks, pipe bursts, and industrial waste. To manage all these issues, water utilities have to come up with smart water management solutions and techniques.

IoT may be used in potable water monitoring tools to monitor the quality of tap water in all government owned education institutes and public places. It should be applied in real-time detection of leakages and wastes of factories in rivers and other natural water bodies. It can also be used in monitoring of water level variations in rivers, dams and reservoirs, for proactive disaster management.

Smart water management is the combination of smart hardware, smart solutions, and smart services integrated together to minimize wastage and optimize the utilization. Intelligent use of information and analytics can be leveraged to deliver improved outcomes across the water management lifecycle.

With the help of this discussion platform we request you to share your valuable inputs on how IOT can be used in:

• Demand Forecasting and Allocation of water resources
• Water Quality Testing
• Infrastructure Management
• Improve Preparedness and Response to water management system

Your suggestions on the above topics will help us to make an integrated view and plan of action for Smart Water development by applying IoT and analytics.

Tiers I II & III Cities have Co operative Housing societies where in each building may have 1BHK, 2BHK, ".5BHK or even upto 5BHK, but all the flat owners pay equally for the water used by the society? Why not fix electronic meters at each flat to check water wastage? Imagine 5 BHK flat may have more number of people staying in it or the rich may have fixed a jacuzzi in his flat but still the poor person staying in 1BHK will subsidise this rich man? Why? This billing system is prone to wastages!

Little drops of water make a mighty ocean.Like that if each citizen saves some amount of water then at least we can ensure water supply to all.I agree with my mates on opinion of installing rain water harvesting techniques.Government should adopt policy of 'Farmer first' i.e. we see that on one hand water parks are open and my farmer commits suicide due to lack of water. We should make use of recycle plastic for stopping evaporation of ground water

Sewage water should be treated and reused. Seen one experiment at Vikram University, Ujjain on Doordarshan regarding making sewage water more clean with help of plants which increases oxygen in water and make water more pure.Should be promoted

Rain water harvesting is the first & fore most thing to be done,in urban areas.People should have common sense that water should not be wasted. When Municipality is supplying water,so many people will be wasting the water diverting to the drains after their requirements without closing the taps.

24hrs plumbing services to rectify leaking pipe complaints. More people to be trained as plumbers. Air conditioners water to be reused.Technique to be implemented along with selling of Air conditioners Where floods are expected water go be directed underground with huge pipes opening far away into a reservoir.Arrangements made to transport water from here to drought areas. Coal ,petrol etc can be transported why not water. May be expensive initially but will become cheaper when ideas pour i

there are a number of other Smart ways of saving water what is provided by nature apart from construction of dams and water harvesting.01. The excess water during rainy season from dams could be channelized to various underground well interconnected by series of piping system . The entry of water to their net work will be just near the full level of dams so that excess water will get drained to various wells for subsequent use. 02. We could construct a sink hole what is practiced abroad
