I think more than anything a uniform marking system should be followed all across board or state irrespective of the medium of study at the school level. If not across all the schools, it is required to have the uniformity in 10th and 12th standard.

Common school uniform policy across the nation till 12th. A completely covered uniform like shirt-fullpant (boys) kurta-pyjama-dupatta (girls) is preferable as it fully covers the child.
One Nation One Board One Curriculum.
Common School Books (Text and Note) across the nation to be sold at Govt Centres at reasonable cost or to be bought online through India Post.
Sanitary & Hygienic items to be directly sent by India Post by Women ministry to needy girls

The education book and board etc may have room for improvements and are continuously being worked on them. But, today's main problem is concentration. An intelligent man varies from other by higher degree of concentration. Some students understand more than other in same class due to more concentration. And, concentration power can be improved using only few basic techniques, like- meditation. Already some schools have tried this age old process and got remarkable result on students performance.

1) Sanskrit should be made first language should be taught in schools
2)This is not the religious language it is linked with scientific researches, without sanskrit our ancient rishis would not be able to achieve those great results.
3)It is the most secular language and it is our cultural language.
4)Learning this language will uplift the lower classes as said by swami vivekananda in his lecture- " the Future of India"
5) It is the best machine language as proven by NASA scientists.

We need a strong education system for the entire country under one national board which is headed by the central government. All state boards are functioned under one name. The rules and regulations for the private school should be restricted. All the private school should prefer only those books which are prescribed by the board. in todays practice the private schhols give burden to a student with unnecessary books. In my opinion the system of board exam will be started from class 8.
