For delivering various Citizen centric services and furthering the reach of Financial Services including Insurance, the Government of India has set up a Task Force to examine and recommend efficient utilisation and upgradation of the Post Office Network, enabled with Digital/Internet Connectivity to rural Offices and outpost areas enabling reach of different services in rural areas. This Network is also being viewed as a distribution channel to retail various schemes and services of Central Government, State Government and Private Sector Players.

Through this discussion the Department of Posts (Ministry of Communications & Information Technology) seeks suggestions on the following:

•    To further the role of Post Offices in Financial inclusion, including Insurance products
•    The infrastructure requirements of the Post Offices and the Postal Network
•    To make the Post Offices financially viable

We should look at splitting the Indian Post office division - one division to work as a professionally managed logistics company and the other to get a banking license and operate as a government bank to leverage and increase reach of programs like Jan Dhan Yojana etc.

I am very much impressed from Ritesh Serene's suggestion. With such a huge network and available infrastructure of post offices in India we can do unbelievable things. We should promote 'Made-In-India' products specially from small scale industries, NGOs, products made by specially able people through post-offices and their network for effective delivery as well. We can make these products available for purchasing in post offices as well as through India Post's own e-commerce website. Thank You.

In India, foreign companies like Archies & Hallmark make huge profits during peak season by selling soft toys, gifts and cards at really exorbitant prices (New Year, Birthday & some Western Festivals like Valentines Day). Our Post Offices must add a section at each location, where variety of gifts, greeting cards created by Task Force of Khadi Gram Udhyog, Special Children at Govt. Missions & well recognized NGOs are kept for instant purchase & mail. Customers will save time buying & posting.
