For delivering various Citizen centric services and furthering the reach of Financial Services including Insurance, the Government of India has set up a Task Force to examine and recommend efficient utilisation and upgradation of the Post Office Network, enabled with Digital/Internet Connectivity to rural Offices and outpost areas enabling reach of different services in rural areas. This Network is also being viewed as a distribution channel to retail various schemes and services of Central Government, State Government and Private Sector Players.

Through this discussion the Department of Posts (Ministry of Communications & Information Technology) seeks suggestions on the following:

•    To provide efficient postal network and points of presence [particularly in rural areas and small towns] to Central Government Ministries / Departments, State Governments [including Local Self Government] and private sector players for delivering various citizen-centric services, scheme, products to the people.
•    To further the role of Post Offices in Financial inclusion, including Insurance products
•    The infrastructure requirements of the Post Offices and the Postal Network
•    To make the Post Offices financially viable

Last date for sending your suggestions is 30th November, 2014.

The main reason people prefer for non-govt services, is because of the quality in their services like fast-track delivery (with additional charges but confirm delivery on time), any time online tracking facility and proper customer care services. If the Indian postal department, can fulfill this in a competitive manner keeping in mind the general difference in handling urban and rural population usage scope for postal services, we can really upgrade our Indian postal services.

1.we cannot view all the PO on same angle. The PO in rural areas may prefer to work as of now with increased facilities.A pilot high tech PO can be started at an INFOSYS campus, or a Mall, or wherever the business comes. specifically equipped with most modern facilities to send email, money, and we we can form a network of hitch PO through the metros and cities and connect online to communicate within seconds.the PO can charge with increased amount and it can work wonders if done properly.

1) Registration/updation of voter ID 2) Aadhar registration (already undertaken) 3) Registration of birth and deaths 4) Ration card and other cards to distribute benefits Thus post office can become very important/efficient link between local govt. in its locality. There is no need to create parallel infrastructure, upgrade post offices to multi-functional centre in smallest town and villages as also in cities. Connect govt to masses with huge expenditure on additional infrastructure.

Post is available right there where it is accessible to common citizen and postman is still most reliable to delivery our letters/packets. Most of the mass contact scheme of government can be delivered to all citizen without creating a parallel infrastructure like 'suvidha kendra'. To my mind following services required by common citizen can be delivered/processed through post offices:
