How can we help and encourage the disabled person?
1. The basic principle is to put the person before the impairment.
2. Ask before you help.
3. Be sensitive about physical contact.
4. Think before we speak.
5. Always speak directly to the disabled person, not to their companion, aide or sign language interpreter.
6. Respect their privacy.
7. Do not make assumptions.

What is a barrier free environment for people with disabilities?
A barrier-free environment removes physical, sensory, and cognitive obstacles, allowing people with disabilities to move safely and independently in built environments and access services. Key features include ramps, elevators, tactile paths, adequate space for mobility devices, and inclusive signage. Beyond physical adaptations, it encompasses accessible digital resources like websites and an inclusive social environment that supports participation in community life, employment and leisure.

In order to strengthen barrier-free environments under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, governments must mandate and enforce accessibility in all public buildings, transport, and infrastructure by incorporating features like ramps, tactile flooring, and accessible restrooms. Additionally, accessibility must be enhanced in digital spaces by making websites and online information accessible, while non-government sectors including private housing, should be encouraged to adopt similar standards. continue-----
