India is one of the leaders in sustainable development and clean energy. With the Hon PM Narendra Modi-led government’s reform-oriented, environment-friendly policies, the country has time & again shown that sound environmental policies can pave the way to a sound economy.

At the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in 2021, PM Shri Narendra Modi announced the ‘LiFE’, a mission to bring individual behavioural change at the forefront of the global climate action narrative. LIFE or Lifestyle for Environment along with the ‘Pro Planet People’ movement, aims to strengthen the efforts to overcome climate change.

LiFE will replace the prevailing 'use-and-throw’ thinking with an environmentally conscious lifestyle. The Mission is to create a global community of ‘Pro-Planet People’ (P3), who with their shared commitment will adopt and promote environmentally friendly lifestyles.

Individual Efforts Are Key to Climate Commitment

India's traditional knowledge strongly positions it to lead the narrative of addressing climate change. Like many other mass movements, LiFE aims to inspire climate action based on the mantra of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’.

MyGov invites you to share your ideas and suggestions on how to adapt to an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

1. Reduce
2. Reuse
3. Recycle
4. Renewable
5. Recover
6. Re-design
7. Re-manufacture

Few examples for the above:
Reduce - Electricity, Fuel Usage
Reuse - Old Clothes, Electronics, Building materials, furniture
Recycle - Plastic, newspapers, cartons, boxes
Renewable - Solar, Wind, Hydro, Tidal, Geothermal & Biomass
Recover - Forests, rivers, soil, mountains, wildlife
Redesign - Green buildings
Remanufacture - E-waste for new purposes

Our civilisational values have taught us the importance of living in harmony with nature. Today, let’s come together to protect our environment & take forward Mission LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment.

We need to recover many lakes and temple tanks which are the main source for drinking water. Due to unplanned city development many lakes are being encroached and apartment are built illegally. This is dangerous. Officials giving permission to construct big apartments should be suspended immediately. There should be a no construction zone on all lakes. Many people without sense dump unwanted garbage in lakes and pollute it. Even in some temple tanks some brainless people let sewage water and throw all unwanted things. A separate department to protect such water bodies has to be formed. Illegal construction of buildings on Lake bed has to be demolished and all the encroachment around water bodies should be removed across India. Encroachment blocks the rain water causing severe inundation and water logging in many cities like Chennai and Mumbai during heavy rainfall. Corporation should take responsibility and take appropriate steps to remove all encroachments unbiased and save lakes.

Although we Indians are good in reusing / repairing many things but there are still few things that we can do; 1) There is a need for set up of second hand Market place in every district for all reusable items. Whether household or Industrial. We also need to liberalize import of household non electronic items from Western countries. A big business can be made out of such second hand import. 2) We need a policy where on govt parks/ society parks/ roads atleast 50-75% of planted trees need to be fruit bearing local trees. In this way kids can see how fruits grow & it will also help with food mission. 3) Our homes/ apartments are constructed with Western building codes. Here we need to promote Sonam Wangchuk way of using sustainable materials. There is a need to change our building code to allow use of such materials / methods as it will reduce the use of ACs/ Fans in our homes/ buildings

Greetings, It is important to redesign our garbage bins and the collection methods. Separate bins for biodegradable waste, recyclable waste and sanitary waste are present. However, all these are collected by the same garbage truck making waste segregation pointless. For ensuring a circular economy, it is vital that we segregate waste efficiently and reuse/recycle them in the best fashion.By setting up a chain of shops that collect used items ,people will be incentivised to dispose their waste responsibly. Thank you.
