I propose revising income tax slabs to benefit taxpayers, especially government employees. The basic exemption limit should increase from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh in the old regime, aligning with the new tax regime, offering relief to lower-income earners. For middle-income groups, broader slabs like ₹5,00,001–₹10,00,000 at 10%, ₹10,00,001–₹15,00,000 at 15%, and ₹15,00,001–₹20,00,000 at 20% can reduce the tax burden. Additionally, raise the standard deduction from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 for salaried individuals, providing extra relief for government employees. Introduce additional deductions for children’s education, professional development, and health insurance. Simplify tax filing with pre-filled forms and revise tax slabs annually based on inflation to maintain fairness. These measures can enhance savings, boost spending, and foster compliance, contributing to inclusive economic growth. Sincerely, Dr. Bandaru Manmohan President, Telangana Teacher Psychologists Union
