The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, under the Sagarmala Programme, intends to create an ecosystem for the development of Ro-Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) ferries and waterway transportation throughout the nation. When compared to traditional modes of transportation, this method of transportation offers a number of advantages, including shorter travel distances, cheaper logistics, and less pollution.

The draft guidelines aim to standardise and streamline the development and operation of ferry services, as well as, promote ease of doing business by reducing delays and conflicts, Additionally, guidelines will aid in boosting private players' confidence, hence expanding their involvement and encouraging healthy competition in such ventures.

The draft of Guidelines for Operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India is issued for public consultation for seeking feedback and suggestions.

जितना पैसा चुनाव प्रचार के लिए खर्च होता है, उन पैसों को इसमें लगाया जाए और इसका विज्ञापन कर जनता हो अच्छे जागरूक किया जाए।

This ferry services should have all safety gadgets and use solar powered lights. Ferry movements should be tracked using GPS navigation to prevent collision with fisherman's boat. Well trained rescuers should be traveling in this ferry to help any fisherman or any other passenger gets stuck in the sea. All interiors should be made of natural based items instead of using plastic items. These ferries should be maintained properly and only after thorough checking of all equipments and engine, clearance should be given to start the ferry. Passengers should not be permitted beyond the capacity to prevent capsizing of the ferry. Oil leaks and fuel leaks should be checked to prevent water pollution. It should be maintained neatly and cleaned after each trip. Proper connection facility to board the ferry and get down from the ferry must be there. A separate path for Physically Challenged people with ramp and handrail. Wheelchair accessible and separate seating area for men and women.

How we can get some global standing features in ferrying, unless the physical structure of the embankment could be converted into a safest, secured and movable places to the commuters throughout the year,, even in rainy weather in particular.

Loaded trucks or other vehicles will Roll on and Roll off from the vessels. These vehicles together will have large amount of diesel or petrol or CNG. Leakage of fuel from any vehicle can create big trouble on high seas. What shall be physical checks of rolling-on vehicles. What steps are to be followed for leakage containment. What shall be the requirements of fire detection and supression system. Is there any provision for fire officer and fire fighters on board the vessel.

This mode of transportation has several benefits; It will reduce travel time. Reduce logistics costs. Lower Pollution in comparison to the conventional modes of transportation (road or rail). Under the Sagarmala Programme, the Ministry is financially supporting 45 projects with a total project cost of Rs. 1900 Crore. This will generate employment, improve infrastructure and promote ease of doing business in the country. It is an environment-friendly mode of transportation and also promotes the public welfare.
