The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, under the Sagarmala Programme, intends to create an ecosystem for the development of Ro-Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) ferries and waterway transportation throughout the nation. When compared to traditional modes of transportation, this method of transportation offers a number of advantages, including shorter travel distances, cheaper logistics, and less pollution.

The draft guidelines aim to standardise and streamline the development and operation of ferry services, as well as, promote ease of doing business by reducing delays and conflicts, Additionally, guidelines will aid in boosting private players' confidence, hence expanding their involvement and encouraging healthy competition in such ventures.

The draft of Guidelines for Operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India is issued for public consultation for seeking feedback and suggestions.

in initial stage government should start ro ro farry on its own. just like state run system. farry boats can be out soursed on rental basis for five years. after five years on looking towards scope and profitability private operators will come in compitition. speed boats for passenger only can also be allowed for speep to attract passengers. speed boats will become more attractive.

and see The ministry has operationalised Ro-Pax (roll-on-roll-off passenger) ferry service between Ghogha-Hazira in Gujarat and Mumbai-Mandwa in Maharashtra, it added. These services have transported more than 7 lakh passengers and 1.5 lakh vehicles, contributing towards clean environment and public welfare.

The Ministry intends to seek feedback and suggestions on the draft guidelines for the operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India from all stakeholders. The document can be accessed from the websites of the MoPSW and Sagarmala on the links https://shipmin.gov.in/ and https://sagarmala.gov.in/ respectively and suggestions can be sent to sagar.mala@gov.in the proforma attached as Annexure I of the guidelines within 21 days from the date of publication.

as It influences the pace, structure and pattern of development. The Ministry of Ports,Shipping and Waterways encompasses within its fold ports,shipping and waterways sectors which include Shipbuilding and Ship-repair, Major Ports, National Waterways, and Inland Water Transport.

As part of Sagarmala Programme, more than 574 projects (Cost: Rs. 6.01 Lacs Cr.) have been identified for implementation, during 2015-2035, across the areas of port modernization & new port development, port connectivity enhancement, port-linked industrialization and coastal community development.
