The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, under the Sagarmala Programme, intends to create an ecosystem for the development of Ro-Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) ferries and waterway transportation throughout the nation. When compared to traditional modes of transportation, this method of transportation offers a number of advantages, including shorter travel distances, cheaper logistics, and less pollution.

The draft guidelines aim to standardise and streamline the development and operation of ferry services, as well as, promote ease of doing business by reducing delays and conflicts, Additionally, guidelines will aid in boosting private players' confidence, hence expanding their involvement and encouraging healthy competition in such ventures.

The draft of Guidelines for Operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India is issued for public consultation for seeking feedback and suggestions.

Tourists create a lot of waste. This can be seen at every tourist spot in India. Waste bins are overflowing. Waste is scattered all around and dogs, stray cattles and birds add to it. Though, short haul ferry services may not contribute much to waste generation but long haul ferry services may have to make provisions for water, serving food and other passenger amenities including toilets etc. In this situation how government would ensure that arrangements are made on board the vessels to maintain hygienic conditions, collection of waste and prevent pollution of ocean?

There are instances of ferry sinking due to overloading in Ganga and Brahmaputra rivers. If we are not able to control such incidents how do we are going to excercise control over operations of ferry services at such a large scale? Is there any provision to restrict the issuance of tickets and to check the overloading of vessels. I would mention ferry services to Bet Dwarka, Elephanta Caves and Vivekananda Rock which I feel are always overloaded and physical condition of most of the vessels is not good. The licence will be issued for 10 years but sea worthiness of vessels shall be evaluated every year.

3. from economy & service development views a) When connectivity and ferry services are made aware among people, the popularity of water ways services increases. b) People would opt to take ferry provided when we ensure safety & quality services. c) make the cost affordable & much cheaper than other mode of transportations. d) Now the technology has advanced, keep onboard entertaining (screens, music etc) for common people. Every passenger onboard may have options to relax all at minimum cost. e) Make special offers & share/promote across India & neighbouring countries which attracts more people to travel by ferry. f) All the ports, equipe with fast & easy clearance. This will once again make passengers choose this mode of transportation. g) India is huge & many opportunities to succeed from water ways transportation. We need to promote. h) Some countries disrespect rules of other countries just to gain more &more revenue, they compramise on safety. we must care for all.
