The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, under the Sagarmala Programme, intends to create an ecosystem for the development of Ro-Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) ferries and waterway transportation throughout the nation. When compared to traditional modes of transportation, this method of transportation offers a number of advantages, including shorter travel distances, cheaper logistics, and less pollution.

The draft guidelines aim to standardise and streamline the development and operation of ferry services, as well as, promote ease of doing business by reducing delays and conflicts, Additionally, guidelines will aid in boosting private players' confidence, hence expanding their involvement and encouraging healthy competition in such ventures.

The draft of Guidelines for Operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India is issued for public consultation for seeking feedback and suggestions.

2. from Safety point of view a) Safety should be the paramount focus b) They must provide well in advance to port administration of India in all details of their ferry clearing all safety standards as per Indian Government. c) Raise the bar in Safety and Quality. d) In the event of adverse situation due to weather or increase in water or technical fault. The contingency must be kept in ready. Unlike aeroplane, this is water the possibility of saving lives are high but we need back up and a mandatory quick reaction team both the countries. e) this can be exercised by sharing ideas, technology and equipments to bridge the gap and together yield the fruits. f) safety is always primary, never compramise, keep the regulation strict when it comes to safety.

Dear Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, I stopped Sharing my views because I came to know everything just name sake, i addressed some key issues to you through email, through CPGRAMS, letter, etc. 8 months now justice denied. However since this topic of ferry has come I would like to share my views as follows; 1. From National Security Point, a) Never accept free passage without valid passport b) Some countries are sending mangoes and ask dream of free passage between both countries. c) why we shouldn't accept without valid passport, reason is well known from NIA to BSF and concerned ministries involved. d) Asylum seekers may increases if you compromise. e) As a results crime increases if they are not taken proper care with food and shelter. ( this can be in any level as NIA is aware) f) if protecting India from all aspects is our goal. I quitted because of your ignorance to my grievance even though I have contributed for many years for India in possible ways. Jai Hind

Cont'd---Mechanization with quick loading & unloading of vessel carrying about 500 to 1000 tons with small draft. Workable for western coast smaller ports. And has been true from centuries with invaders coming through small ports. The frequency of vessels & economics is the key factor. With Ro- Ro service by railways with quick transit time is another compiting factor. There is a limitation on sailing speed in comparison with railways or road transport. Western coast has limitation as the river depths are small as there's a gradient from the western ghats towards the coast in a short range. Also many bridges with small clearance & span. For inland transport on the west coast highway with 6 lane connectivity from small towns or cities is a must. Another factor associated with western ghats is tunnels at various points to save fuel for inland transport from ports maintaining sensitive ecological balance. Saving time, energy with quick export has to be the goal with a large coastline.
