BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) is a Section 8 'Not-for-profit Company' under the Companies Act, 2013 set up by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, and Government of India as an interface agency to promote industry-academia partnerships in the field of Biotechnology. BIRAC over the last five years has initiated several schemes, networks and platforms that help to bridge the existing gaps in the industry –academia innovation research and facilitate novel, high quality, affordable product development through cutting edge technologies.

BIRAC plans to launch BIRAC Innovation Challenge Award which will be a competition that will bring solutions and breakthroughs to a problem that is currently intractable. This award will help solve the problem in a defined time frame and develop an affordable product/solution which is of global excellence. The envisioned areas for the Challenge draw upon the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Good Health and Sanitation. The indicative areas for suggesting themes for BIRAC Innovation Challenge Award are:

Health: Foster healthy lives and promote well-being of society through development of products especially in medical technology (Devices and diagnostics) which can alleviate healthcare challenges in India. Indications are: reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, end the epidemics of communicable diseases.

Sanitation: Ensures that communities have access to equitable sanitation & hygiene for all and end open defecation.

We invite you to please suggest themes based on the above mentioned areas under which we can launch a challenge to develop functional prototypes leading to globally excellent products & solutions which will render an affordable, faster and impactful solution to critical issues.

Simply and positively oral health and hygiene policy should be included with national health policy. For example simple things like two time daily brushing teeth, brushing technique, washing hands before meal and after toilet etc.are still not included in primary school education. To make clean India healthy India this should be addressed. One oral health and hygiene specialist should be in charge for every primary school children. This can make a sea change in the society.

We should built a credible scientific base,by which to evaluate biotechnologies and their impact.Knowledgeable decisions about the developement of biotechnology must begin with reverberating understandings of thier productivity, economic health and social effects. We have to emphasize on the absence of such a knowledge base and the importance for avoiding negative effects and capturing the full potential benefits of the techhnology.Like, thenew transgenic crops could reduce the use of chemicals, etc

Hon.PM,FM & team has great concept of GST, but I want to suggest that, Initial stage of introduction of law, without lossing of revenue, procedural relaxation should be given in large interest,e.i.In respect to reverse charge to be paid by registered person for purchase of goods/services including administrative exp.from unregistered person, which will avail as Input Tax credit of equal amount paid, all tax will recover when sales & GST collected & paid without ITC,hence,pl.ommited RCM,best wishs

for all the industries whose waste is non-biodegradable,they should be assigned "responsiblity towards environment" under which it should be made mandatory for them to create set up or means of meaningful use and recycling of such byproducts.for example if a small scale industry's waste is plastic, they can create plastic doormats or decorative materials. Each industry should be given support and inspiration to achieve a goal of "zero discharge" into the environment.
