We need to develop innovative thinking in children. Companies like Google allow their staff to spend 20% time in innovative activities. Only select ideas become acceptable and profit bearing technologies. But, it has established an innovative culture in the company. Schools should allow their imagination to run wild. A change at this level will help inculcate the innovative/creative thinking. This will help them be more innovative in future studies.

Promoting R&D requires creating research atmosphere and giving freedom to experiment in educational institutions. One way is to have 2 days a week (say Friday & Saturday) during which students are left on their own to experiment different things in college labs/workshops. Also in technical courses, practical application of every topics must be explained at the end of that topic. This practical orientation of teaching will encourage research activity.

I strongly feel that present Government must implement good scheme, which could make the life of people better rather than having only long term plan, if Govt wants to win the heart of people instantly. Long term plans are essential as well, but people are normally impatient and want instant result, other wise other parties will win over the heart of people and win coming elections.

This is unfortunate that India as a nation never put emphasis on R&D in any industry. What we have doing so far is to copy others. Government should give some sort of incentives to private players to promote R&D program in various sectors, like rebate of Income Tax on R& D Budget. this is one of the suggestions
