With globalization and liberalization of Indian Economy in last two decades, numerous domestic and international companies have been drawn to investing in new modes of business/ business models targeted at the huge domestic market especially in the consumer goods & services. Direct Selling is one of these modes where goods /services are sold directly by the producer/service provider to the consumers. For this different models such as Multi Level/Network marketing, Door to Door Selling, Online Selling, Tele-shopping are being used. These practices are new and different from traditional retail through shops. In the absence of a proper regulatory framework, retail through these models leads to consumer grievances, trader’s issues, slow growth of the sector etc.

The aim of this discussion is to deliberate and evolve views of all stakeholders for providing a regulatory framework to the sector.

Regulation is necessary to some extent to save the local grocer and vegetable seller. But direct online selling can be beneficial if they are constrained to sell through small vendors as done by Amazon, Flipkart. It helps both the seller and the buyer. Vegetable and cereals can also be supplied through local vendors. Quality and weight must be well-monitored.

According to the ongoing policy for rice and wheat for packaging in quantities of 25kg, the manufacturers are printing their own price and due to this the consumer market(lower class) is affected at high scale as mfgs print avg 1000/bag instead of 500/bag. if the packing rules are removed for 25kg the price may be effected positively be lower for small consumer. Also weight fluctuates accordingly and Mfgs. have to do air pass packing acc to weather. Please remove the rule of 25kg

Govt which cannot implement existing rules and regulations involving day-to-day life of people can add more and more regulations. There is no Govt to resolve citizen's complaints through proper channel. See how all of a sudden myGovt has woken up and holding hyper high level man ki baat about earthquake sleeping over a period of 14 yrs of Vanvas. Jai Hind.

India is the 3rd purchase power nation in the world. If we exercise our power in direct selling activities, as in the giants like the USA, the UK and many others, we can solve our unemployment problem. But we need proper laws and other necessary amendmends in this field by our govt so that there can be a smooth confidence in driving in this sector. Presently, around 5% Indians are earning their living through this.
