Share innovative ideas on sustainable EEE Products

Electrical and Electronic Equipment ( EEE ) and materials are one of the biggest challenges to sustainability. EEE are responsible for highly complex waste generation, energy-intensive manufacturing, usage and waste processing.

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) observes Swachhata Pakhwada 2022 from 1st February 2022 to 15th February 2022 promoting ‘E-waste se Raksha- Swachhata hi Suraksha’. Citizens are invited to share their ideas on how EEE products and materials can be made more sustainable.

We value your suggestions which would be instrumental in encouraging efforts towards sustainable practices in Electrical and Electronic products and spreading the awareness about same.

The best entries from the citizens will be identified by the Ministry and will be featured on the MyGov page.

The last date to receive suggestions is 15th February 2022.

Contd--Compact energy displays with Efficiency indicators & time totaler for high consumption gadgets to be mandatory. Govt should do sample survey on different homes in towns, villages & cities to understand the energy consumption of electrical gadgets.lighting loads per sq.ft of homes this can create awareness of energy consumption for optimal consumption. Use of natural light by providing additional windows can save energy for lifetime. Insulation material, positioning of air-conditioners in rooms can save energy. Every unit saved from burning fuel & more use of renewable energy is essential. With energy costs going up & pollution to control these aspects become vital.

EEE electrical electronic equipment should be built with EEEE efficient, electrical, equipment, engineering.Efficent energy consumption is important tool for pollution control. Energy saving is creating national wealth. Per capita energy consumption with efficient use has to be the goal. An inefficient gadget will consume national wealth & health. To generate electricity we need to burn fossil fuels transmit energy to your door step again energy is lost. Every gadget should prominently indicate energy consumption on it to create consumer awareness. To start with let us indicate units per hour average in red colour on domestic water pumps, airconditioners, washing machines, electrical stoves ,driers, wet grinders, vaccum cleaners, refrigerators. As consumer may not read small labels in watts & other details. Compact energy displays with Efficiency indicators & time totaler for high consumption gadgets to be mandatory. Govt should do sample survey on different homes in towns, villages Contd-

Be a good consumer. Do some research when you’re ready to buy a new product. Make sure it’s one that won’t break easily or become damaged shortly after you purchase it. In other words, look for products likely to have a much longer lifespan so you won’t need to replace it within a few years, or even months. It’s known that this is a common practice in the electronics industry; to make products with shorter life spans so more money can be earned in the long run when they break or malfunction. Reuse as often as possible. If you have parts and equipment that are still working, try repairing the electronic device before getting a new one. And if the device is beyond the point of being repaired, then recycle it. Educate yourself on what gets put into your electronics. Knowledge is power. Doing some research about the raw materials being used to manufacture your mobile phone or laptop helps you understand how harmful those materials and toxins can be if they’re tossed into a landfill.

In electronic and electrical devices chip, semiconductor, some metal or some parts are long life and durable. Because of this we can Reused some parts of electrical and electronic equipment in new device or in new equipment. If we used old durable electronic parts in new device then Production cost for making this part it will decrease, also the cost of electronic devices Decreased. It is possible to do if people submit their old electronic waste to recycling industry then it to easy to recover the old parts off gadget.

1. We can take out the important equipments in these electronics which can be reused. Like camera of Mobile, display etc 2. The waste can be sold to manufacturing companies for reuse 3. Make people aware about the harmful effects of this waste on soil. 4. These days the policy of show off is on its peak. People buy unnecessary new technology. They should be made aware

Life Cycle Analysis of a Mobile Phone: CRADLE to GRAVE Analysis. (i) Manufacturing phase - use reusable/recyclable raw materials for production of mobile phones such as rubber, glass, etc. and also from point (iii) mentioned below. (ii) Useful phase - restrict the use of mobile phones by awareness programs highlighting the danger such as cancer, multiple organ failure caused by excessive use of mobile phones. Use of hands free has other disadvantages and they are now contributing to more of E-waste because it cannot be repaired and mostly one time use and throw. (iii) End of life phase - increase the shelf life of mobile phone from 1.5 years to 3-4 years by providing infrastructure to upgrade it like increase RAM, camera quality, etc. recycling of useful materials such as glass, rubber casing, etc. Technology can be developed to recover precious metals such as gold, silver, etc. in a sustainable manner. Above all Change in mindset of people, sharing and awareness is necessary
