Bamboo has been the lifeline of rural India since time immemorial. With the passage of time and development of technologies leading to new usage, the 'green gold' has turned into a potential game changer for rural economy - for the farmer and industry equally.

With this background and number of progressive measures including the amendment of the Indian Forest Act to remove bamboo outside forests from the definition of 'trees', the restructured National Bamboo Mission (NBM) was launched in 2018-19 for the development of complete value chain of bamboo sector linking growers (farmers) with industry starting from raising quality planting material, plantation, creation of facilities for collection, aggregation, processing, micro, small & medium enterprises, skill development and brand building initiative in a cluster approach mode.

‘National Bamboo Mission’ invites farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, bamboo-based industry to send in their experiences, innovations, and good practices adopted for increased productivity, strengthen supply of raw material to industry, products in sync with contemporary markets, REPLACE SINGLE USE PLASTICS, new age construction, and other sunrise uses.

Bamboo was planted for wind resistance by the Leader Farmers Sindhu Shelke (Women Farmer , Udyan Pandit 2019 Nominee) in their Mango Orchards. The Vocal for Local campaign with social media promotion helped get inquiries to sell their produce to other states and distant location like Belgavi. There is need pf huge factory or big player who will procure bamboo and make products and also takes responsibility of branding and packeging ;unfortunately there are only small entrepreneurs and small manufacturers which dont have idea of branding, packeging, geographical reach in diverse market. Either make available these things through markets or introduce big bull/player in this business and job of farmer becomes only selling primary goods to big player and get profits.

Dense planting of bamboo on the banks of the Yamuna, he says will not only absorb CO2 but also bring down particulate matter. The plant is an “excellent scavenger,” he says; its roots do not go below two feet, so it can absorb rich nutrients in raw sewage that flow untreated into the Yamuna and raise its biological oxygen demand. During the monsoon, the clumps will slow the flow and reduce the chances of flooding downstream. Submergence does not affect the plants.

Bamboo plays an important role in the environment. It lowers the light intensity and protects against ultraviolet rays. Bamboo development reduces pollution and its plants reduce upp to 35 % carbon-di-oxide in the atmosphere and deliver more oxygen.
