The NITI Aayog-led Shoonya campaign, in partnership with MyGov India, is thrilled to announce the electric vehicles Townhall, an open discussion platform for citizens to share valuable ideas and suggestions to promote and enhance the clean electric mobility ecosystem in India. The Townhall focuses on electric vehicles (EVs) and their associated advantages, including cost savings, clean air, health benefits, and emission reduction.

In line with this initiative, NITI Aayog in collaboration with MyGov, invites input from citizens.

Near-term efforts must focus on continuing to make EVs competitive and gradually phasing out purchase subsidies as sales expand. This can be done via differentiated taxation of vehicles and fuels, based on their environmental performance, and by reinforcing regulatory measures that will enable the clean vehicle industry to thrive.

This is beneficial not only for the electricity system, which needs to stay balanced and healthy but also for the EV driver. All public EV charging stations to have the ability to charge smartly.

Consumers must have unrestricted access to full information on the availability, location, waiting time, operational status and price at different charging stations. Access to open data is crucial in achieving interoperability or the ability of any electric vehicle to charge at any charging station. This is important in making the EV charging ecosystem as accessible and open as possible.

So far, a common standard regarding EV charging pricing has been missing and charging providers have been able to set their prices in several ways, based on time, energy, the combination of both or with a fixed rate. This complexity needs to be clarified for EV drivers. Charging points above 50 kW, pricing should be energy-based, i.e. per kWh and always clearly indicated to the EV driver before the start of the charging session..
