Rourkela City, the steel city of Odisha, located on the banks of river Koyal and Brahmani has been shortlisted as one of the SMART Cities under Government of India’s’ SMART City Mission. Under this Mission Rourkela is required to prepare SMART City Plan and formulate its own unique vision and strategies through active consultation of its citizens and all stakeholders. Rourkela Municipal Corporation requests all Rourkelites to share their ideas, suggestions, vision and innovative solutions to transform Rourkela into SMART City.

Citizens are requested to suggest innovative, sustainable and SMART solutions for the Area Based Strategies: Retrofitting (Planning and improvement of infrastructure in an existing built-up area); Redevelopment (Replacement of existing built-up area and co-creation of new layout with enhanced infrastructure); Greenfield Development (planning and development in new areas) and also viable PAN City Initiative.

Rourkela Municipal Corporation is looking forward for valuable suggestions from all the citizens of Rourkela. Grab this opportunity to be a part of this challenge to transform STEEL CITY into SMART CITY.

Traffic regulation - encroachment of roads should not be allowed by vehicles or temporary shops, traffic-chowks to be highly equipped to punish violators, speed control in specific routes (especially single roads without dividers)

For me SMART City stands for: S- Self sustaining and safe (able to survive on its own and protects its citizen and their heritage) M- Magnetic (attracting business and People) A- Affordable (to its citizen, in terms of Public Transport, Housing etc.) R- Reliable and Renewable (in terms of providing basic facilities like water, electricity by 24/7) T- Technology (doing everything by using the modern technology at its fullest)

Most importantly bringing awareness in citizens of the city by rules and regulations and punishment for rules violators should be strictly applied.

Special focus should be on women security; special and time bound response in case of emergency. Only when women can move freely we can say anything is improving
