I think first government should make it easy for citizens to complain against misleading advertisements and also should randomly monitor various ads themselves. Then as a next step, they should heavily highlight the transparency and impartial stand of this department and invite smart citizens to come forward and share information regarding misleading ads. Without this, if you first ask what citizen can do, the whole thing is pointless. Indians have way too many daily problems to deal with.

On part of a citizen, he/she must bring an awareness among the public stating the demerits of the products along with statistical values. It can be spread viz whatsapp, facebook, twitter whereby the demerits can be shown to the users directly

I would suggest that a committee for each State must be formed and it must work in several groups. Those group must be like that of Censor board of advertisements, and the advertising agencies must submit it before it is being telecasted. Similarly, those groups must also control the program list of various television networks and must monitor teleshopping programmes before being telecasted. This will surely be a watch dog over the fraudulent advertisers and it will surely benefit the people.

There should be a wing in Police who should randomly call the given phone/mobile number in the Press advts. If a purchase is involved, money should be paid, if found fake or cheating is involved, the person who has given the advt. should prosecuted.

Many TV advts. are coming with famous personalities We should bring a regulation wherein we can file against such personalities as well as the companies, if claims can be not proved scientifically.

Liquor advertisements are banned but all such companies are advertising their same product / brand in the name of Mineral Water or Soda. Indirectly they are marketing same brand of liquor, their main target is not selling soda or water but liquor. Can any action be taken on such indirect advertisement techniques.
