Nearly a decade and half has passed since the National Policy for Empowerment of Women, 2001 was formulated. Since then significant strides in global technology and information systems have placed the Indian economy on a trajectory of higher growth impacting the general populace and women, in particular in unique and different ways. The discourse on women’s empowerment has been gradually evolving over the last few decades, wherein paradigm shifts have occurred –from seeing women as mere recipients of welfare benefits to mainstreaming gender concerns and engaging them in the development process of the country. These changes have brought forth fresh opportunities and possibilities for women’s empowerment while at the same time presenting new and emerging challenges which along with persisting socio-economic problems continue to hinder gender equality and holistic empowerment of women.

The policy envisions a society in which, women attain their full potential and are able to participate as equal partners in all spheres of life. It also emphasises the role of an effective framework to enable the process of developing policies, programmes and practices which will ensure equal rights and opportunities for women.

The broad objective of the policy is to create a conducive socio-cultural, economic and political environment to enable women enjoy de jure and de facto fundamental rights and realize their full potential.

Women Empowerment doesn't mean giving equal opportunity. It is about attitude of the society. I am from Kerala, here women are more educated than men but women face a lot of hurdles from the society even from other women. so I have felt that any crime against women/ a girl should be harshly punished. She must feel the security in the society. There must be model Panchayath (local Self Government) which is women friendly/ Girl friendly.

For women, poverty doesn’t just mean scarcity and want. It means rights denied, opportunities curtailed and voices silenced. Therefore we should address the process of empowering, social empowerment, economic empowerment and political empowerment in the National Policy for Women.

It is important to include sex education in class 6 or 7 and very important to include gender and sexuality education by the time students come to class 10 or 11. Women can only be empowered if they grow in confidence, are free to do as per their wish, are trusted and supported. To "empower" women, you need an enabling society and both men and women are part of this society. Gender awareness leads to respect, leads to empowerment. We need to educate our boys and girls in the right ways.

Special facilities and monetary incentives are given to parents for encouraging them in sending their daughters to schools and colleges. Legislation to prevent marital rape should be enacted; it wills thence the pre conceived notion of male domination in the Indian society. Encourage remarriage of widow and do away with discriminatory provisions relating to women in matters of inheritance, divorce etc in the personal laws.

Illiteracy and poverty are main reasons which stand as hurdle and stumbling block for women empowerment and progress. It is more felt in the rural areas and other backward pockets. An extensive surveys should be made stateswise to gather correct informations and statistic on the gravity of situation. Remedial measures should follow it along with the trained manpower and finance.

Minimum age of a girl for “Love marriage” should be 21. Arrange marriages are backbone of Indian Culture. As per our law, minimum age for a girl to get married is 18 years. If a girl with her own decision (without parent’s permission), going for a Love marriage, her age should be minimum 21 years. Because at the age of 18, she is not matured enough to take herself such an important decision. In so called “Love marriage” the age of 18 is more of sexual attraction rather than true love.

As already well said by our prime minster "ladies are sabala not ablala". But the more rights should be drafted for the better position of women in our society . we can make some rules like 1 work hours should be same but the timings may vary as per the need of the woman. 2 dressing sense training should be given to them as per the evniornment and workplace . 3 rules already existing should be implemented stricitly.#DraftNationalPolicyforWomen2016

Since bias against females has been inherent among both males and females, it has to be addressed during formative years. We can include topics related to gender bias and equality in the primary and secondary level textbooks. Along with developing children's awareness about respecting women, we should also have discussions on stringent laws related to rapes and molestation in the textbooks meant for adolescents. Moreover, sex education for children should be a little more open and informative.
