Under Section 3 (3) of the Electricity Act, 2003, the Central Government may, from time to time, in consultation with the State Governments and the Central Electricity Authority, review or revise, the National Electricity Policy. In compliance of section 3 of the Electricity Act 2003, the Government of India had notified the National Electricity Policy on 12th February 2005.

3. The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs), in the discharge of their functions, shall be guided by the National Electricity Policy under Section 79 and Section 86 of the Electricity Act, respectively.

The Expert Committee is required to submit its suggested draft NEP 2021 within two months.

Dear Sir, I would like to suggest to start prepaid electricity cards, many consumer are paying electricity charges even they stay out of home for quit long time due to what so ever reasons. prepaid electricity card will help them to buy in advance and they can use it as and when they want. this can be done either by AMI meter or device which would be connect to meter to stop supply if overdue.

Frame a basic rule to get electricity for any house and all state must follow that ( example no land documents - property tax receipt - No electricity connection). Do this check once in 5 years. Electricity charges should be common across India and any free offer by state can be directly credited to direct transfer system. Also anyone consume more than 200 units (that means they are not below poverty) no free for them.

India is a developed country now. Hence, remove the state governments from the business of generating and distributing electricity. If any state government wants to help any sector, let it give cash directly to the consumer. Permit only publicly listed PSUs and private sector to produce, transmit, and distribute electricity on the national scale. Then, couple renewable electricity generation to the sale of electricity to electric vehicles through a national network of charging stations.
