Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city has to compete with 98 other cities from across the country to make it into the Top 20 cities which will be taken up for the first round of funding, for the financial year 2015-16.

Citizens and stakeholders of Coimbatore are requested to post their views and suggestions on how to make Coimbatore a Smart one. The citizens may organize their thoughts on the following topics

1. What should be the Vision of the Coimbatore
2. Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors

a. City Spatial Structure, Transportation and Green Spaces
b. Energy, Water, Waste Water and Environment
c. Housing, Health, Education, Security, Law and Order
d. Citizen Engagement, Smart Solutions and IT-led service delivery

Citizens can also reach us through the official site of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation www.ccmc.gov.in or through the Facebook page www.facebook.com/smartcity.coimbatorecorporation which is the official page for smart city challenge.

respected authorities, I am very happy that Coimbatore city is selected for smart city mission. On behalf of this mission I have few suggestions. 1. I find that there many traffic signals are not working properly and not maintained. This leads to traffic in that particular place during working and peak hours. 2. draining of the rain water during winter is not proper. so kindly take necessary actions to control flooding of rain water in the roads.

Green cover / Water management: Ukkadam Periyakulam along with the newly laid road on the periphery adds a Scenic view. Converting all the lakes inside in the city in the similar manner and using the periphery as jogging tracks/park would pose a good look. Maintenance of the lakes also aids in ground water management and improvement.

Waste Management: 1. Completion of underground drainage and bringing it to full time working condition. 2. Regular collection of garbage from all parts. 3. Proper maintenance of garbage cans/trucks. 4. Localized garbage recycling facilities to avoid unnecessary transport of garbage. 5. Regular maintenance of sewage lines and water disposal pathways. 6. Providing garbage cans near roads wherever littering occurs on regular basis. 7. Fine/restriction for littering on streets.

TRANSPORT:Introduction of smart roads of 3 types- 1.Main roads 2. Domestic 3. Industrial, in our city which has proper provisions for street lighting, drainage, water pipes and underground electrical lines and communications. For this we must first implement laying of STRAIGHT roads with right angle turns, rather than the CROOKED ROADS with various structures blocking the way, which we have now. Proper planning of the laying longlife roads should be done, taking care to remove these obstacles.

The roads are not at all enough. There is no proper connecting road between two major roads - trichy road and Avinashi road. The singanallur bus stand has become a bottleneck which has to be planned better. There are so many accidents happening between Chinthamanipudur and sulfur as the road is just two lane and all lorries and long route buses ply through this route. Noyyal river is used for the drainage which needs to be cleaned. Metro needs to be considered to avoid congestion on Trichy road

Government should take action to maintain Perur Pateeswarar Temple and the river Need a cleanly maintained city bus Properly laid and traffic roads maintained A common place to pay bills (E.B, Telephone bill, Etc) like Bangalore one Public awareness to public to maintain the enjoy the goodness of city

• More no. of parks to be constructed and well maintained • Existing parks and zoo to be renovated • Parking charges to be automated in important areas to prevent improper parking. Advanced parking systems to be introduced • Cameras to be installed to prevent over speed and penalty to be introduced to regulate the road traffic. smart card systems to be introduced to detect the penalty and parking charges and SMS to be sent to the customers

• Garbage Disposal and Recycling - Garbage disposal and recycling system in the city is very poor right now (garbage collection irregular, insufficient tubs, proximity of tubs placed are far ….). It needs to be prioritized to make the city as Hygienic city first. • Water sources to be protected to prevent encroachment as well as to prevent it from pollution • Transportation: Transportation facilities to be improved. Remote areas to be well connected frequently. Night service to be introduced
