Government may seriously think of automatic clearance by swiping the passport instead of queuing up for clearance for citizens.

Suggestion for improvement in procedure for commercial imports.
1) Earlier limit for consolidated clearance of shipments with KYC was Rs.100000/- when USD price was Rs.45/-. Today USD price is about 68/- . So this limit should be raised.
2) For regular importers of commercial goods , repetition of documents like GATT declaration, product catalogue etc. should be avoided. You can register these details only once like KYC and for every new consignment, use these details from your system.

Need a Credit card, at least debit card payment process at airport. It's not ppl don't want to pay custom duties but ppl try to escape from the harassment. Bring online payment system, pay before fly and shoe receipt at airport.

I understand that our system is OK. But they take too long to be great. My suggestion is Simple. Please Copy Singapore - Which is very close to India. Copy them in every single aspect from a traveler's point of view in terms of comfort and Amenities. Copy it for one single airport in the South and then gradually keep copying every six months of the improvements. We Can do it !!!. Research and Development will take centuries. We need to feel Welcome not frustrated.

In Chennai after we get off the plane - We are made to walk for so long. It becomes really difficult especially if we have an elder person or a child. Plus Once we enter the immigration hall, I did not even have any direction or place to get the immigration form. I had to go to the Officers room and request for one. When we travel for 25+ hours and come to homeland we feel the first touch of frustration. Things have improved, but needs a lot more.starting with walkways to organized lines.

Present Customs policy is acting as deterrent and debarring Indian citizens from having quality products. Big houses in India nowadays have stopped investing in R&D. They are just buying Chinese products and rebranding them and then selling at double the cost and when an individual visits abroad and buys similar product of better quality and half the cost then customs Department in Airport catches them to recover the cost. This is something Govt should look into than debarring people

I have to tell that most of them do harass for money - mainly in US $$. In fact once i got an electronic item ( which was the only item i got ) and he asked me $100 to let me go. I was quiet and he said that in India the value is more than $1000. Then i searched for the invoice and showed it less than $500. He then asks for $50. I said No. He then searched my entire luggage like as if i have some contraband. Wasted more than 1 hour. Felt that he treated me like a criminal. No where this happens

Rather than developing a software, there is need to revisit our custom policy. As a normal buyer, one would prefer to buy from local market in order to get after sales support. However, over a period of time it has been observed that people prefers buying products from outside the country for simple reasons that they are quality product, they are cheap and equivalent product in Indian market either does not exist or provides very limited functionality because our business houses don't like R&D

1. Do away with Discretionary Powers. Only encourages misuse of Official powers. Will close one of the loopholes to Corruption.
2. Duty Free Allowances should be increased, for Individuals or Families travelling once in 3 yrs abroad- exposure to lifestyles and improved Quality of life with import of modern Health and Home Appliances by rural India.
3. Young Sportsmen/Women, 'unknowns', encouraged to access modern imported equipment, at nominal customs duty, based on accredited Sports Club ID.

Since long customs treats incoming Indian travellers from foreign countries with eyes of suspicion. This must be stopped. No other country requires baggage screening of all passengers unless suspected for some reason.
Even after screening at Mumbai airport, at exit gate, someone claiming customs again stops and asks about what is there in bags and probably tries to snatch some dollars out.
STOP treating citizens like smugglers. This is harassment.
