"I carry a cloth bag every time I go to the market and insist the shopkeepers to avoid plastic bags and put the vegetables etc. in my bag. I have made it a habit". This may seem very simple but it is a great initiative to say NO to single use plastics. Some basic daily habits contribute in a big way to fight the invasion of plastic into our surroundings: Carry only metallic water bottles to office or school. Carry reusable shopping bags. Choose product with minimal packaging. Promote use of Biodegradable disposables like cutlery, straws etc. Prefer reusable containers for food storage. These little steps will gradually lead us towards a litter-free environment. JAI HIND

To reduce plastic waste and beat plastic pollution, I propose a unique initiative called the “Plastic Bank at School/College.” Under this idea, a dedicated collection point is set up within educational institutions where students can deposit used plastic items like wrappers, bottles, old pens, etc. In return, they earn “Green Points” which can be redeemed for rewards such as discounts in the canteen or on stationery. This encourages responsible disposal and recycling habits among youth. The collected plastic is handed over to local recyclers, ensuring proper processing. Monthly recognition is given to top contributors as “Plastic Warriors,” and an awareness booth nearby displays eco-friendly alternatives. This initiative not only promotes plastic waste reduction but also inspires collective action and sustainable living among students.

Plastic has taken front seat, in daily life of common man is due to production cost, colours, designs and ease of manufacture of utilities like grocery bags or other utilities. It requires replacement of the same by other competitive materials like natural fibre bags, vegetable-lather products etc. Plastic should, strictly, be restricted to industrial products which has potential recyclability Due to size, mass etc. Additionally, innovative manufacturing techniques or plastic composites need attention. Ancient wisdom of storage, utensils should be patented and brought in usage, like it was before.

We need to tackle the lifecycle of plastics, enable the deployment of alternatives and stop plastic pollution leaking into the environment. Refill and reuse systems must become far more prevalent. We must encourage the private sector to innovate, take responsibility and finance an end to plastic pollution.

To reduce plastic pollution, individuals can adopt several actions in their daily lives, including using reusable bags, bottles, and cutlery, refusing single-use plastics, and opting for bulk purchases and plastic-free personal care products. They can also prioritize recycling and responsible waste management.
