The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Mahashivratri mele ko zero waste banane ka sujhav. Mele me thermocol aur plastic par poori tarah ban lagakar mitti ke kulhad aur pattal use kiye jayein. Devotees ke liye local level par steel bartan bank ki vyavastha ho. Jagah-jagah aise smart dustbin rakhe jayein jahan khali bottle dalne par logon ko digital medium se chhota reward ya coupon mile taki log khud kachra sahi jagah dalein. Bhandare ke bache bhojan aur phoolon ke waste ko process karne ke liye mele ke paas composting machine lagayi jaye jisse jaivik khad ban sake. Iske sath hi local youths ki ek volunteer team banai jaye jo is poori vyavastha ki dekhrekh kare. Isse mandir parisar swachh rahega. NAME : NILESH HUMNE CITY :SEONI 22

if I have to give ideas on this then firstly in religious mela people's offerings to God is for me one of the major waste that should be minimised. Alternatives like donation should be done which should go to funds for human welfare. More of biodegradable plastic bags or cloth bags should be used for less polution. There should be proper toilets and sanitation for public and proper management of crowd and the stalls should be clean with hygienic food for people to avoid any infection or bacterial diseases. If the mela is for 2-3 days proper arrangement of sheltering should be there for the public as well as for people who are going to put stalls. Proper guidelines with check should be there. proper area or place for dumping waste should be present with clear instructions to people for proper disposal of waste and the place of dumping should be far away from any water body to save them from getting dirty and contaminated from any diseases

Title: Sacred Waste Bank (Where Every Offering Becomes a Resource) I propose establishing a Sacred Waste Bank inside the temple, where visitors deposit flowers, coconuts, earthen lamps, cloth, plastic, paper, and metal at dedicated collection counters. Instead of becoming waste, these offerings will be converted into useful products such as compost, incense sticks, handicrafts, reusable bags, and recycled materials. A digital display board will show the amount of waste recycled and carbon emissions reduced, encouraging public participation. The initiative will also create livelihood opportunities for local women's self-help groups, artisans, and youth volunteers. This affordable and practical model promotes a circular economy by turning religious offerings into valuable resources. It can become a replicable Zero Waste model for religious festivals across India. A temple should be remembered not only for its prayers but also for its positive impact on nature.

Zero Waste Mahotsav aims to celebrate Mahashivratri while minimizing waste and protecting the environment. Temples often generate large amounts of waste such as flowers, plastic bottles, food packaging, and disposable plates. The goal is to reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost these materials. Waste Segregation Place separate bins for wet waste, dry waste, and recyclables.Use clear signboards to guide devotees.Composting Floral Waste Convert flowers, leaves, and coconut waste into organic compost.Use the compost in temple gardens.Plastic-Free Temple Ban single-use plastics.Encourage cloth bags and reusable water bottles.Eco-Friendly Prasadam DistributionServe prasadam in biodegradable or reusable containers.Avoid plastic packaging. Volunteer Awareness Campaigns Educate visitors about cleanliness and waste management.Organize cleanliness drives during the festival.Recycling Initiatives Partner with local recycling agencies to process collected waste.

Mindful Offerings & Waste Segregation • Floral & Organic Composting: Temples generate massive amounts of floral waste. Set up localized, small-scale composting units for flower and coconut offerings, turning them into organic manure for temple gardens or local agriculture. • Zero-Waste Prasadam: Ban single-use plastics and styrofoam plates. Switch entirely to biodegradable alternatives like arecanut leaf plates, stainless steel bowls, or traditional leaf vessels. • Reduce Synthetic Packaging: Replace plastic poly bags with reusable cotton cloth bags (e.g., the traditional manjappai) to carry pooja items. 2. Sustainable Energy & Operations • Solar & Biogas Integration: Harness solar power to illuminate common areas. For larger temples with community kitchens (langars), establish biogas plants that convert leftover vegetable and organic waste into cooking fuel. • Water Conservation & Replenishment: Install aerated faucets and water-efficient systems for routine cleaning and abhisheka
