While each smart city will have distinctive features specific to its location, demography, culture and other such factors, there maybe smart solutions to problems which are common to all cities. This contest seeks to identify such smart and innovative solutions to common problems. All questions in this category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing. Questions 1. Out of the following 21 smart solutions, select 3 solutions that should be applied to all Indian cities and provide a brief write-up (max. 50 words) to explain why. 2. Describe a ‘smart’ idea that you have seen in some other city(anywhere in the world) that you would like to see replicated in your own city. ‘Smart idea’ means doing more with less. 3. Describe 3 ways that Indian cities can reduce the gap between rich and poor. 4. List out 5 essential facts about your local municipal corporation that should be available to all citizens. Entry Deadline • Entries may be submitted online on the mygov.in portal latest by 23.59 hours (11.59 pm) on Saturday, 20th June 2015. Evaluation The submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria: • Do-ability (50%) • Innovation (50%) Award Two winners in each category will be awarded a citation from the Prime Minister at the Smart City Mission Launch on June 25th, 2015 at VigyanBhavan, New Delhi, along witha cash prize of the following amounts: • Rs. 40,000 - First PrizeRs. 25,000 - Second Prize The winning ideas would be shared with the 100 SmartCities as potentiallyimplementablesolutions and will be considered for pilot • All questions in a particular category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing. • The participants(s) entries will be judged for each category independently and on merit. In case of short listing in more than one category, a participant will receive prize money for one category only. • The length of each answer is limited to 250 words or less. To reduce the gap between the rich and poor we need to do the following: 1) Have basic amenities like schools, college & hospitals accessible to every poor at lower cost or free of cost. 2) Give fillip to skill development and minimum wages should be set for all categories of job for public and private run organization. The wage structure of a public sector service holder (govt. sector) is very much more than the private sector counterpart in many cases.

A4. Essential facts about local municipality: i. Easy grievance hearing and redressal mechanism ii. People should decide how their taxed will be spent. A way to make this happen. iii. Priority to basic infrastructure like roads and proper drainage systems instead of showy complexes. iv. Social media accounts for better reach out. v. My local municipal corporation has facilities of easy reach to officials, online taxpaying facility on its website, This should be implemented everywhere.

Q1)1.Renewable resources such as wind, tidal, solar energy can be used to be produce ever growing demand of electricity. And when produce reduce the carbon footprint ,reducing the environmental effects such as pollution. 2.Energy efficient and green building in which solar light can be used to light up the building during daytime, can also be used to heat the building ,can be cooled by the wind breeze. There by reducing the power consumption up to 80 percentage.

A3. 3 ways we can reduce gap between rich and poor: 1.Crowd funding:If citizens donate Rs 10, then 10,000 donations can make Rs.100,000/-. This fund can then be utilized for sponsoring schooling and skill training to poor centers & helping them find employment or star own small business.Crowd fund can be also utilized for designing ‘smart homes’for them-safe, better and hygienic 2.Community festivals:also improve happiness index & unity 3. Educating poor about government schemes

1) there should be one common coplex for all institutions like bank post office govt offices etc with free wi fi 2) 60 % area for greenery 40% area for buildings 3) solar pannel to be used for street lingts and lights for the govt institutions

1. Use of renewable energy in street lights. 2. No wire poles including cables of electricity, disk, telephones etc. 3. Gas pipelines in all households. 4. CNG autorickshaws and public transport mode. 5. Industrial hub or SEZ. 6. Sanitation is major cause of worry. 7. Potable drinking water facilities in whole city. 8. Atleast 50 waste treatment and disposal industries. 9. Wifi facility. 10. International standard bus and railway stations and terminals.

Start with infra and sanitation. Education on next with healthcare coming next. Making it compulsory that city would have 33% of tree cover, ICT can help tracking of everything from traffic, sanitation, water. Making work near to home, ensures less pollution, less stress, more productivity.

A2. Idea: Creation of green buildings and green walls with vertical gardens. This can be done by employing waste plastic bottles and implementing the gardening through citizen engagements and can generate jobs.

A1. Solution 3 Citizen Engagement in itself capable of implementing more than half of 21 solutions from urban mobility to waste management. Solution 15 (through 14 & 9) can help generate jobs and skills through solution 21. Solution 21 can develop ideas for waste water and all managements through solution 3!
