In India, historically, we have had different phone numbers to call police, fire and ambulance services namely 100, 102, 103 and other numbers for different kinds of emergency. It was realised that all emergency services should be converted into single emergency response system. The need was felt to bridge the gap between the police forces and citizens in the hour of emergency.

In lieu of the above, Ministry of Home Affairs designed “Nationwide Emergency Response System (NERS)” to cater to the growing demand for single emergency number across the country. The Department of Telecommunications has allotted the emergency number ‘112’ for this project. It is a centralized system with the IT infrastructure hosted on central cloud services. This system connects with the state level Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). A PSAP facility will run 24 hours a day, dispatching emergency services as required. Trained agents would be responsible for dispatching the emergency services.

The system is envisaged to take inputs from various sources such as mobile phone calls, landline calls, SMS, email, chat messenger, panic buttons in public transport, voice over IP, mobile application and internet of things devices. As soon as the input message is received in the NERS system, it would be attended and GIS/ GPS enabled vehicles would be dispatched. It’s a state of art system which would track the case till its closure by the emergency vehicle. The emergency would initially include police services for responding to the calls made by women in distress and later would be extended to medical, fire, disaster management and other such emergency services. Once fully implemented, any citizen calling for any emergency service across the country would connect with 112 and would get attended by the emergency responders.

The system aims to reduce the emergency turnaround time, provide single emergency number, provide efficient services to the citizen in distress, provide counselling to citizens and track the case closure. The system will benefit all citizens and provide safer environment in the country.

Citizens of India are invited to design a suitable logo for Nationwide Emergency Response System.

Cash Prize for winning logo is Rs. 1 lakh.

Last Date for submission is 31st August, 2015.

The logo is simple but effective. Being new, the agency needs to communicate the audience what it does. Its a combination of wordmark and symbol. The 3 stripes on the digits showcases the three sectors where the users can reach by dialing the number. the colors green and red has been used as both of them has high contrast and can grab the attention easily. This is necessary during emergency. The digits can be used as symbols separately from the word mark.

I wanted the logo to be clean cut and a way of representing this new modern India. Red is the prominent color used in this logo because its a global color to represent danger and distress, also its the color the eye tends to immediately capture or easily responds to. Feels great and honored to be a part of this competition!

This logo represents emergency number ‘112’ which is applicable nationwide. I have represented it by using colours of national flag and Ashoka chakra. I have represented police , fire and ambulance graphically so that illiterate people can easily understand the purpose of this logo.

Hello everyone, I have designed a logo that makes use of the popular 'SOS' used in times of distress and emergency. To show the system superfast response I have taken inspiration from USB 3.0 symbol that are the three arrows. The ashok chakra in middle as letter 'O' depicts that the system is reachable 24 hours, the same meaning as it means in the National Flag.
