During the Rashtriya Ekta Divas address on 31st October, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that the Government of India proposes to launch a new initiative called ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. The programme aims to give a boost to the existing cultural connect between different parts of the country and enhance interaction between people living in different states.

Conceptually, the idea is that each year one state should connect to any other state in India on a reciprocal basis. As the Prime Minister himself explained through an example in his speech, "Haryana as a state can decide to connect with Tamil Nadu for the year 2016 and the activities that Haryana state can undertake may include popularizing the rich heritage of Tamil Nadu in Haryana through song festivals, book festivals, literary events, food festivals, tours of people of Haryana to Tamil Nadu and vice versa. In the year 2017, Haryana would connect to any other state and in 2018 to another state and so on".

The knowledge of the culture, traditions and practices of different states will lead to an enhanced understanding and bonding between each other thereby strengthening the unity and and integrity of India. The full address of the portion of the Prime Minister's speech, where he announced the scheme, can be accessed here.

We believe that such an initiative to connect people-to-people should be implemented with inputs from the citizens of India.

With this view, MyGov introduces the ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ contest. Citizens are invited to submit their ideas and suggestions on how the programme should be structured so as to encapsulate its true spirit in all its various dimensions and capture the diversity that characterises India.

While the citizens are free to submit their ideas in kernel format, they can also expand in detail on the themes and sub-themes. Citizens may consider the following general themes on which to base their ideas, while submitting their entries. These themes are only indicative and participants are free to include any other points they deem appropriate.

1. Identifying role of central government and state governments in implementing the programme
2. Identifying the manner in which the governments, civil society and private sector can work together.
3. Specifying the Use of modern communication tools, including social media.
4. Documentation of success stories.
5. Making 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' a people's movement rather than a government programme.

Participants are encouraged to submit original and innovative ideas. An idea, merely rich in detail but lacking originality, would not score more than a very innovative idea explained briefly. However, if a very innovative idea is also explained in detail, it will naturally score higher.

Participants may submit their entries as attached PDF documents while providing a summary of their proposals in the comment section.

The winners of the contest will be awarded a certificate by the Prime Minister, along with cash prizes as follows:

1. First Prize - Rs. 100,000/-
2. Second Prize - Rs. 75,000/-
3. Third Prize - Rs. 50,000/-

The last date for submission is 25th December, 2015.

I suggest the following 1. Innvolving people in a mode of debate & discussion. 2. India's cultural diversity should be a chapter in schools from Class V to X. 3. Building "India Mueseum"showcasing India's cultural diversity. 4. Schools should encourage exchange programmes in their vacations. 5. Making a user friendly "Ek Bharat" app. 6. Celebrating "Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat" day in schools & colleges. 7. Highlighting success stories in the website.

#EKbharatShreshthaBharat I want to suggest that we can create groups of students from different schools and colleges from different states so that we can exchange students between states , this will help them in learning other states culture ,language ,religion, festivals etc . HRD ministry should take some interest in it, we can exchange students in summer or winter vacations as a part of extra curricular activities , it should be adopted by CBSE , ISC Boards in their syllabus. Thank you

Two things which really create differences among people from different states in the lack of a common tongue that all can understand and the difference in the culture and traditions. My suggestion is to start including the regional languages in the curriculum of the schools and let teachers of regional languages move to other states to teach the same. This will help in spreading the many languages that we have in our country and will also expose people to different cultures and traditions.

I think sharing of views and culture should start from the nearby states.When/ if the cultural mixing will become successful, then it should be extended to states far away.I am a resident of Jamshedpur. The border of Oddisa is just 32Kms from the city and the border of west bengal is nearly 40kms from the city. Still the residents here are unaware of the art and culture of oddisa and west bengal.I have visited oddisa and i found that the culture, language, art forms, tradition, houses is different

To connect let say Assam and Maharashtra, in any particular month, a one day cultural function can be organized by Government of India. Each half of the day can be kept focused on beauty/culture/tourism of the states followed by an evening dance program where both Assamese Bihu and Marathi dance can be showcased. This way people of both the states will understand each other better and it will boost tourism as well. The same can be repeated with other states in other months. Thank you.

ek Shreshtha Bharat banane se pehle hame ek sangadith bharat ka nirman karna chahiye jahan ek bhartiya apne naam, jaati, dharm, prant se nahi balki ek bhartiya hone se jana jaye. Hame Haryanvi, Gujrati, Madrasi hone se pehle bhartiya hona padega jisse hum ek Shreshtha bharat ki mazboot neev rakh sake. We have too many dividing factors. we now desperately need to identify uniting factors and promote them heavily.
