Electronic waste (e-waste) creates a global crisis due to environmental degradation. India, as a growing economy, is facing serious challenges in managing the volume of generated e-waste due to lack of environmental awareness and socio-economic issues. Major concern of e-waste management in India is its recycling undertaken by non-formal sector not adhering to health and environmental norms.

While e-waste poses a problem for the environment it is also a source of valuable resources and contains a number of precious metal and mineral resources, which are available in very limited quantities in nature.

While Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change is involved in enacting laws, guidelines referring to e-waste and has formulated the E-Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2010 wrt safe handling of e-waste, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has addressed indigenous technology development through its R&D efforts to recycle e-waste and extract pressure resources following environment and health norms.

In this direction DeitY has initiated a demonstration plant to showcase its developed technology of processing printed circuit boards (PCB) to recover precious metals at Bangalore. DeitY also proposes to provide capital subsidy to authorized recyclers for processing e-waste similar to support available under the M-SIPS scheme of DeitY. Further recyclers using indigenous technology could be given additional advantage.

DeitY seeks views and suggestion to address the e-waste issues both in term of technology development as well as policy initiatives.

Comments should be received by 10th February, 2015.

Honourable Sir, Some people get only a few buckets of water in Delhi once in 2-3 days, for which also they have to fight in a Q. Others get enough to have bathtubs & saunas in flats, swimming pools in societies and golf courses. What is govt doing about it ? Some retired PSU officials are rehired at lacs pm for almost no work or responsibility eg Ministry of Petroleum has some committees. This is a huge waste of tax payer's money. Best regards

a thermocol and polithyne bubble sheets packing for all electronic equipment, machinery, glasswares, tv, sound systems and all other instrumkents, can be re-collected by the vendor itself and paying back some compensation to a customer. for ex - when we buy a lcd tv , we get a huge box with a grand termocol packing inside, which we don't need in future at all , it occupy a huge space in our store rooms as well, so make a policy for such re collection by vendors it self.

The greenbelt ridge area of Delhi has large variety of forest plants. The ridge area can be effectively used as a biodiversity park and also can have a large variety of forest/wild animal species.A ropway system can be developed to make the ridge area a tourist attraction both for Delhiites as well as national, international tourists.Rope ways will ensure opearation of the biodiversity park and zoo without too much human interference. Also the ridge should be used a huge water harvesting project.

India has a rich biodiversity in horticultural, agricultural and forest plantations. No adequate measures have been initiated to preserve the biodiversity genomes.Government must create large chunks of biodiversity parks in forest lands and other areas all over the country. This can be made sustainable through ecotourism, sale of plant varieties etc. This rqures urgent action. The ICAR/SAUs must be given a time bound programme to advise on biodiversity issues!

India has thousands of ancient temples and palaces, combined with a rich history of Indias past glory dating back to thousands of years. With proper focus the ITDC and Archeological survey of India could work out a massive tourism development which can tourists from India &abroad to these rich cultural & religious heritage places. This will call for good guides, guest houses, well maintained temples and palaces. The whole project could be floated under PPP mode and use government guest/circu hoses
