India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

The best solution would be doing a proper research on the demand pattern and the consumption pattern, Intermediaries required.

A detailed survey on the consumption pattern in each locality should be studied. Based on which the fruits and vegetables should be supplied to that place. The local agriculture pattern and soil suitability should be studied to increase the production and meet the local demands as far as possible, minimising the supply from other parts. ie. The farmer should be made aware of the demand and should be encouraged to harvest based on the demand incase if the soil supports. Reduce middlemen & brokers

there must be minimum support price for purchase of agricultural commodities from farmers by middle men by central government taking in to account cost of produce, finance charges and marginal profit for farmers. this will put to end farmers death due to suicide in various part of India. Also to control retail price, Government must fix Maximum Sale price on farm products. ( Middle men and retailers must earn only minimal profits). Lets en-power Farming community who toil hard,

We have made a machine through which all waste food and vegetables can be converted into organic manure and animal food before it becomes waste, these machines can be installed at various places and then all waste be converted rather than sending to landfills.
