SIr wish u a happy new year..In our country on the one side we have post harvest loss and on the other side supply constraint. We need to link the PDS and ration shops through better connectivity through e services so that where supply constraints are reported, surplus can be transported.2.we need to use the best of modern as well as traditional knowledge for food preservation.Argo processing industries can be opened within the reachable area so that food can be processed thereby reducing losses.

Its is very important to setup cold storage at District level to ensure constant supply. Cities like Delhi , Mumbai , Chennai , Bengluru need constant supply of vegetable and fruits . If we introduce a Refrigerated Coaches train from rural area to urban centre , we can be able to provide good market to farmers plus affordable and quality food to cities. In it railways get its fare share . All Market place should mandatory create infrastructure to store perishable food products .

I think when u can order anything & everything online why not fruits& vegetables..customers should place orders directly & govt can act as middlemen in transfering goods could also collect a certain amt as their commission..Less time consumption so less loss..export the surplus...profitable to farmers, common man & govt...sounds stupid but not impossible in the present digital india

Irony In India the non-perishable manufacturing goods are sold at least 200% of their manufacture at each stage tax is given very less subsidy and every one invests in it transport and storage. But the Farm Produce which is perishable have random increase in price - and no one invests in its storage and transport. I feel that is because govt has started giving subsidy and the objective of investment in this only to get subsidy and tax benefits. Pl treat allow it to become and at par Industry.

We need work on this sector and give it some government impetus. Refrigerated containers should be made available in remote parts. Shipment to nearest railway and ports is essential.

Opening of cold storage is required to prevent post-harvest losses. But we can not bring all the farm orchards to the cold storages. so that we need to have refrigerated vans/ trucks and trains to ensure all fruits and vegetables grown in the farms reach to the consumers well before being deteriorated. It is also advisable to check possibility of opening food processing units to have a better returns and least damage of the produce.
