India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

To take care of avoidance of perishing of agriculture produce, fruit and vegitables, the installation of SMALL UNITS AT CONVENIENT DISTANCES IS SOMETHING THAT SEEKS URGENT ATTENTION. More often than not, the farmer is not able to take his perishable produce to 'Mandi' as expeditiously as he should to get reasonable return, as also to avoid its getting decayed, reducing his return, in turn. This is owing to several factors including, at times, his inability to ARRANGE TRANSPORTATION.

There is huge gap between customers and farmers, thers should not be any intermediate in between, all the farmers in villages should unite together encourage to sell their products like vegetables and fruits directly to market after harvesting.. there should be minimum storage, maximum availability of products in the market, as supply will be more price will also come down.

Railway can play decisive role in the matter by adding one wagon in all trains leading to City for local fresh fruits and vegetables as per need.

Transportation is biggest hurdle .farmers donot get right prices for fruits and vegetable.there should be insurance of fruits and vegetables. Govt should tell their schemes to the last farmer pf country.these schemes of govt use by industry instead of farmers.govt should give eady and less intrest rate loans.
