India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the developed countries or developing countries like China, Brazil, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. One of the main constraints in the growth of processing of fruits & vegetables in the country is non-availability of modern and suitable infrastructure with efficient supply Chain. Consequently, there is very high level of wastage of the fruits & vegetables in the country resulting in the farmer not getting adequate remuneration for his yield. A study conducted by Central Institute of Post Harvesting Engineering Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana, an ICAR institute, reveals that wastage in various agricultural crops in the country range from 6-18% and the highest loss has been shown in fruits and vegetables.

Ministry of Food processing Industries invites views/ suggestions for reduction of these losses.

Last date for sending your suggestions is 1st February 2015.

The agriculture produce is such a valuable asset that allowing a part of it going waste, is something that calls for quick remedial steps. It is a National waste -- both in terms of man-hours and financial losses. Besides, on a personal level, it burdens the the producer, no end. It can well be imagined the state of mind of farmer when, after harvesting, he sees his produce perishing, for no fault of his. THAT DESTROYS HIS STRENGTH, BOTH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL BESIDES HIS FINANCIAL STRESS.

rich people living in the cities can make a deal with poor farmers of their own villages. Rich man can provide money for cultivation and transport of fruits and vegetables to the city market without any middlemen. So the people in city can get fresh vegetables and the poor will get appropriate money without any losses in between.

Facilities to have cold storages....directly bought from farmers...without middlemen. Middlemen kills the growth and creates scarcity. Farmers should deal directly with govt. sponsored execs for buyout of their crops and have a facility to this kept in govt. approved cold storages...or appropriate place, need to make sure this not rot and kept unused...Pvt players are welcome to maintain these storage facilities...but cannot have a say in prices. Govt. SCM should be driven by experts

1. Provide transporters with multi layer plastic boxes so that fruits do not squeeze themselves with their weight while handling them 2.as big containers model concept, which can be used for transportation of goods on trucks, railway and ship, no need to empty at various levels, such system at small size must be used to handle fruit products which will help in safe handling and consequently save fruits and veg. To squeeze out SIR THIS IS THE BEST METHOD AND PRO EN ALSO.
