For delivering various Citizen centric services and furthering the reach of Financial Services including Insurance, the Government of India has set up a Task Force to examine and recommend efficient utilisation and upgradation of the Post Office Network, enabled with Digital/Internet Connectivity to rural Offices and outpost areas enabling reach of different services in rural areas. This Network is also being viewed as a distribution channel to retail various schemes and services of Central Government, State Government and Private Sector Players.

Through this discussion the Department of Posts (Ministry of Communications & Information Technology) seeks suggestions on the following:

•    To provide efficient postal network and points of presence [particularly in rural areas and small towns] to Central Government Ministries / Departments, State Governments [including Local Self Government] and private sector players for delivering various citizen-centric services, scheme, products to the people.
•    To further the role of Post Offices in Financial inclusion, including Insurance products
•    The infrastructure requirements of the Post Offices and the Postal Network
•    To make the Post Offices financially viable

We have a very large post office network well scattered over towns and villages. These must be upgraded and converted into National Service Centers (NSC). The existing staff is already trained in delivering many services and their skill can be upgraded to meet all requirements of NSC and staff so trained be suitably rewarded by increase in their emoluments and perks. If a place has more than required number of post offices then it's manpower can be deployed at other nearby centers or new centers

The rules by which department is working were laid down by the British people in the 19th century more than 150 years ago which have out lived their purpose. The department should update its laws according to changing times regarding delivery of mails. For eg if a article is lost in transition then to find out the where about of the article Search bill is issued from the booking office which is very lengthy process and often takes more than 6 months. There should be new process with fix period

We have the largest postal network in the world with 1.5 lakh post offices with major reach in rural areas but due to lack of initiatives it has provided limited help in financial inclusion and people have to travel far to banks while post office are near. Moreover postoffice doesnot have basic facilities like air conditioner and water coolers for public or even for its staff. The buildings are which they function are not suitable for running a organisation which is worlds largest network

Jay hind. We have superb network in post department but we are not utilizing it. Big courier companies can not reach each and every villages of India but post department can do that. I have a suggestion to make post department digital.we can do that online. Person come and take courier from home. And deliver on time like private company. Thus we can increase the value of out post department.
