For delivering various Citizen centric services and furthering the reach of Financial Services including Insurance, the Government of India has set up a Task Force to examine and recommend efficient utilisation and upgradation of the Post Office Network, enabled with Digital/Internet Connectivity to rural Offices and outpost areas enabling reach of different services in rural areas. This Network is also being viewed as a distribution channel to retail various schemes and services of Central Government, State Government and Private Sector Players.

Through this discussion the Department of Posts (Ministry of Communications & Information Technology) seeks suggestions on the following:

•    To provide efficient postal network and points of presence [particularly in rural areas and small towns] to Central Government Ministries / Departments, State Governments [including Local Self Government] and private sector players for delivering various citizen-centric services, scheme, products to the people.
•    To further the role of Post Offices in Financial inclusion, including Insurance products
•    The infrastructure requirements of the Post Offices and the Postal Network
•    To make the Post Offices financially viable

I think the best way of utilising the post office network would be to have kiosk with internet access where a customer can send / assisted to send mail to his/her relatives to the remotest village. The mail can then be accessed at the recipient post office that can take the print out of the email and can be delivered to the local address. The major advantages would be: 1. Reduce the lead time and delivery Cost 2. Leverage the huge postal network across India to reach to the remotest location

A tie-up with the e-commerce companies can, I think, be a profitable option for India Post. The e-commerce websites still doesn't deliver to many places. Even modest products like pens, books etc. are out of reach of some places as it is in my case. I believe that leveraging the vast network of India Post can be a profitable venture for both India Post and the e-commerce companies and more importantly to the Indian economy at large.

I think This Application is a one way....it should be a two way communication...citizen and government should interact with each other in this platform to share thoughts and ideas and implementations...so that government will be so much citizen friendly.

The Proposed new Common Services Center can utilize the existing Post Offices as a point of Delivery which could make the utilization of existing resources and tap the human potential in a better way. The widespread postal network could become a crucial juncture to accessing multiple resources from a single point.
