India has one of the biggest postal network in the world. Post offices are there in smallest village as well. They run savings schemes as well and min you it is heavily used by rural people of our country. Their main business is Post, unfortunately their business got heavily effected by e-mails but at the same time Courier business has flourished in India in last few years as well. So business opportunity is always there, they have better network and infrastructure than the private players.

Cleanliness and a customer friendly ambience is essential to attract customers. With high competition from Private players, India Post should should come up with attractive Corporate level schemes. For example, distribution of flyers/ brouchures. When a company signs up with India Post, if they can print and distribute them to wider community. This is only one possible suggestion. There could be many.

Post office network could be used:
1) post Aadhaar card issual, to distribute financial benefits to families below poverty line.
2) to collect applications and issue passports.
3) to issue instant passport size photos (if this can be done at competetive prices, could possibly generate good revenue).
4) sell items manufactured/created from local village groups (this will generate cash flow).
5) as banks with ATM's.
6) as intenet centres by using internet kiosk's in rural areas.

I think one should make speed and registered post available through online also. We see that during peak time like income tax return , rakshabandhan etc people wait for almost 1-2 hr for their post to be done. If we make things online , then a person can book speed post online and paste a slip on our letter after taking print out. There should be a speed post letter box in post office where we can put our speed post which we have done online. This will save man power and increases revenue.

At the outset, congratulating the entire team behind this portal as the outreach is incredible, especially for Indians like me who are mostly travelling outside India. It becomes easy to say that the Post office can be made a hub that provides lots of services to its area and can include most services like any post offices in other developed countries do however we need to be mindful about the diversity and numbers of India that those other countries can’t really imagine. The demographic mix is

Post Offices (POs) have the widest network and outreach in modern day India. Its vast untapped potential can be utilized for e-literacy, PMJDY and promotion center for various Government schemes. The advantage POs have is that they have basic infrastructure and they need to revamped to international standards and technology. No disparity should be done between a village level post office and that located in a metropolitan otherwise it would fail the objective of using it as dissemination center.
