The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), in collaboration with MyGov, invites comments and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public on the draft accessibility standards for the Services Sector. These draft standards, which identify non-negotiable rules, have been prepared to strengthen the creation of barrier-free environments in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and relevant rules.

All interested individuals are requested to carefully examine the proposed standards and submit their feedback, comments, and suggestions on the MyGov platform, ensuring that personal details are entered accurately during registration.

How can we make communities more inclusive for people living with disabilities? 1. Including people with disabilities in everyday activities. 2. Creating accessible environments. 3. Creating equitable opportunities that support people in holding roles similar to their peers who do not have a disability.

How to help people with disabilities in the community? In order to help a person with a disability, focus on treating them with dignity and respect, offering help only after asking, and understanding their unique needs. Support the disability community by advocating for accessibility, educating yourself and others, volunteering with relevant organizations and making appropriate donations.

How to make buildings more accessible for people with disabilities? 1. Install grab bars. 2. Upgrade door hardware. 3. Provide assistive technology. 4. Add ramps to entrances and exits. 5. Make doorways accessible. 6. Provide clear and well-lit paths of travel. 7. Create accessible parking. 8. Build accessible restrooms.
