The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), in collaboration with MyGov, invites comments and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public on the draft accessibility standards for the Services Sector. These draft standards, which identify non-negotiable rules, have been prepared to strengthen the creation of barrier-free environments in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and relevant rules.

All interested individuals are requested to carefully examine the proposed standards and submit their feedback, comments, and suggestions on the MyGov platform, ensuring that personal details are entered accurately during registration.

What are environmental barriers for persons with disabilities? The environmental barriers outside the home environment that are most frequently encountered by individuals with disabilities are lack of architectural structures (e.g., ramps, elevators), inadequate or poor visual, tactile or acoustic signaling and lack of adapted transportation among others.

How does communication create barriers for disabled people? A communication barrier results when people are unable to hear, speak, read, write or understand information as it is available to them. People with visual impairments may need large-print text, Braille versions of written material or screen readers.

🔹 Implementation Model • One Tech Mitra is selected per village (preferably a school or college student) • They receive basic digital training (online or at the district level) • A weekly help desk is set up through the local school or Panchayat • Their work is tracked, and they receive certificates or small stipends 🔹 Impact • Boosts digital literacy • Makes government services more accessible • Empowers youth with leadership roles • Transforms villages into “Smart Villages” 🔹 Why This Matters I am 14 years old and scored 19/20 in the Viksit Bharat Quiz. Though I am not eligible for the next stages due to age restrictions, my vision is for India’s future. I believe this idea can be a small step toward a big transformation.
