COTTON is the Prime & Indi-genous agricultural product of INDIA. As a textile & medical-surgical material for utility around the world, cotton may become good source of economy for all scales of industry, provided a coordinated, well planned production, with quality is done.
INDIGENOUS medical shrubs and herbs can be procured, grown, processed, & products used for health and diseases through out the world by engaging every village to develop small scale industries as per the available plants native to the villages. Many modern medicines are made from extracts procured from many Indi-genous plants of India. Research by experts will help in coordinating.
All agricultural tools and instruments may be listed to see that they can be produced by small scale industry clusters for utilisation, in INDIA, which necessitates again to develop skills & knowledge potential in people of the industries.

As far as the development of India is concerned, small-scale industries and cottage industries have been consistently playing a major role by granting employments to labours, developing the rural areas, and exporting a good amount of goods. At the same time, it has been beneficial to people. It gives necessary craft skills and entrepreneurial spirit. Overall, it can be said that the small-scale sector enables people of the family to be self-reliable.

Cottage industry faces competition from medium and large industries which uses high-end technologies for production. There is an urgent need for the implementation of modern technology which not only enhances productivity but also develops skills of the labourers to meet the requirements of the local market. As most of the cottage industries are located in rural areas, the implementation of modern marketing strategies is difficult. The availability of raw materials is limited to specific seasons and it decreases with time.

Cottage industry is a concentrated form of small scale industry that can be started with very low investments. Cottage industry is generally unorganized and the production of goods takes place in the houses of labourers using conventional methods. The cottage industry has its origin in rural areas where unemployment and underemployment are prevalent. It helps the Indian economy by involving the other unemployed workforce of rural areas.
