The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, under the Sagarmala Programme, intends to create an ecosystem for the development of Ro-Ro (Roll-on, Roll-off) ferries and waterway transportation throughout the nation. When compared to traditional modes of transportation, this method of transportation offers a number of advantages, including shorter travel distances, cheaper logistics, and less pollution.

The draft guidelines aim to standardise and streamline the development and operation of ferry services, as well as, promote ease of doing business by reducing delays and conflicts, Additionally, guidelines will aid in boosting private players' confidence, hence expanding their involvement and encouraging healthy competition in such ventures.

The draft of Guidelines for Operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India is issued for public consultation for seeking feedback and suggestions.

ROPAX service is a water transport service project under Eastern Waterfront Development. The road distance from Mumbai to Mandwa is about 110 kilometres, and it takes three to four hours, whereas by waterway the distance is about 18 kilometres and a journey of just an hour.

गुजरात में लगभग 1600 किमी. लंबी तटरेखा पर समुद्री और बंदरगाह मामलों के लिये ज़िम्मेदार एजेंसी ने वर्ष 2011 में इस योजना के लिये निविदा जारी की थी। भारत में अपनी तरह की इस पहली सेवा के पूरी तरह परिचालन में आने के बाद फेरी के माध्यम से एक बार में दो बंदरगाहों के बीच 100 वाहनों (कार, बसों और ट्रकों) और 250 यात्रियों तक को लाया-ले जाया जा सकेगा।

Welcome, When we go hand operated boat,we would see difficulties by boat man.But that boat is eco friendly. When we will use for water transport mode we prefer engines.It would cause eniromental impacts(-) So existing water ways alone might be used for people service.New water ways may by expert committee who are really dedicate and excel in the river and ocean. The future our life depends on river and ocean.we can not over exploit water ways by the name fery services. Thanking you

ऐसे भी कई घर है जँहा नल आ गया है, पर पानी नहीं आता। अत:, ' नलसे जल' योजनाका नाम         ' घरमें नल, पानी कल ' ऐसा रखना चाहिए।

इस प्रोजेक्ट को तैयार करने में करीब 615 करोड़ की लागत लगी है। इस फेरी सेवा की जिम्मेदारी गुजरात सरकार के मरीन एवं पोर्ट अफेयर्स के पास है। अभी पहले फेज का उद्घाटन किया गया है। माना जा रहा है कि ये रो-रो फेरी सेवा गुजरात के औद्योगिक विकास के लिए काफी उपयोगी होगा। समय की बचत उद्योग के विकास में काफी मददगार होगी।

इस नौका सेवा के लिए जहाजों को खास डिजाइन के साथ तैयार किया गया है। इसमें क्रेन की मदद से किसी भी सामान को उठाया जाता है और दूसरे स्थान पर रखा जाता है।। जहाज इस तरह से डिजाइन किए गए हैं कि बंदरगाहों पर ही सामान चढ़ाया और उतारा जा सकता है। इस सेवा की मदद से भावनगर के घोघा बंदरगाह से भरुच बंगरगाह केवल 1 घंटे में पहुंचा जा सकता है। इसके एक जहाज में करीब 100 वाहनों को लादा जा सकता है।
