Carbon tax should be imposed on Private cars or when buying Petrol/Diesel for private cars.
And those revenue from the tax should be applied into subsidies for Public Transportation so that Public Transportation becomes easier and cheaper or very nominal cost.
In these way many people will prefer to use Public Transportation for daily purpose.

Providing the limit to the usage of fuel, there should be improvment in reach of public transport so that the public be convinient to use. Bicycle must be used by the youths.

Encourage people to use Bio-diesel(extracted from vegetable oils) as fuel for their vehicles which can be produced from agricultural practices. Even though it requires small amount of petroleum products, it can further decrease the present consumption of petrol/diesel to a large extent.

keeping track of fuel usage by an individual can help with this.
Car pooling by corporate professionals.
Using public transport(Bus,Metro and local trains) whenever possible. public transport should have wide connectivity, only then the public will come forward to use such facility.

The exhaust that is released by vehicles is highly toxic and will definitely cause severe damage to the environment.By using electric vehicles pollution can be controlled as well as burden of importing petrol will be reduced. At present India is spending more to import petrol which requires more money. So,if people switch to electric vehicle expenses will be reduced.

one thing what every citizen in India should do is that we should use public transport as much as possible... in metro cities we should effectively use metros because they run on electricity. so by using metro we can save fuel to maximum extent.
