The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

KIndly do something for the rampant fleecing of students by medical colleges. This is especially the case for NRI seats, both in Govt & Private medical colleges. Earlier, state domicile applied to families owning property in a state/ ration card. Over past few years, most of the states have excluded students from State quota if they needed to study out of home state in 10th, 11th & 12th! This is a huge setback for children of professionals who often switch jobs.

Prevention to bogus certificates After completion, certificates are issued. In these, bar code can be applied. This bar code can contain signature of student and enrollment no.along with institute name and year of passing in encoded form. This will help to reduce bogus certificates issued to anybody.

n Andhra Pradesh, higher education system became a large Business. Here we have tremendous unhealthy competition, and education institutes are competing for fee reimbursement from AP Govt.Students need not to come to the college even at least one day.We will go student homes and beg them to join in our colleges with all student favor permission along with money offers, 100 % internal marks assurance. State Universities busy by granting infinite seats to colleges. college won’t have any facult.

Countries like Japan, France, earlier passed a rule, in which u have to serve country for certain period(2-3 yrs). However in India, we cant have this kind of rule. But we should have ways/options to serve. Ex: IITs, IIMs funded by govt(Established to grow in engg and management sector). But mostly students admits with lesser fees and after completion, shifts abroad for job. Motivation to serve the country is lacking in this area, request you to please do something about it.

Each educational Institution should be mandated to partner with any of Hospital/Blood Bank/Old Age Home/Orphanage in it's vicinity. The institution should take lead in organizing monthly/quarterly visits by students to the chosen organization.Every year, 1 problem/improvement area needs to be identified and students should be asked to provide their ideas and effort to solve the problem at hand or improve the current situation. Outstanding contributions need to be recognized by the college.

The present education program is good enough to give degree certificates but not providing good citizens who value the country and society. The grading and percentage system in the institutions and the parents driving the students to get always first rank is not helping the country. The JNTU in Andhra Pradesh allows students to get degree failing upto one subject. Never heard of such a system and every thing is possible only in India. Incredible.
