The role of institutions of higher education in societal development is becoming increasing significant. In recent years, higher education has isolated itself from the society and there is a need to re-establish and strengthen higher education’s close linkages with the society. How can Universities foster social responsibility and engage in community outreach programmes. Sharing some working examples would also be a useful input.

The importance of education from moral point of view needs encouragement. In regards to nationalization of History and linking of the same from national pride, self-reliance, linking it to archaeology along with evidence can be achieved. Add age old Sanskrit literature to the stream of education in daily discourse will be an added advantage. Besides making physical discipline compulsory in schools, colleges, debates, dramas, moral values to add to the knowledge of arts stream is best

Now around the world, Vegetarianism is becoming more and more popular. There are now many culinary schools coming up across the globe that are purely focussed on vegetarian cuisine. However, considering that India has a very large vegetarian population, it is really surprising that there are no vegetarian culinary schools in India!! In fact, there are no culinary or Hotel Management course in India that even offers vegetarian culinary arts learning as an option!! High time this is corrected!!

One of the serious deficiency in our society is the lack of a mechanism for engaging the common man with the scientific community. If we could ensure that experts and scholars are in tune with the needs of the common man, they will appreciate the real impact of their own research. For this, I have the following suggestion. 1) Create a large database of research problems. Have the people, especially students of schools and colleges contribute to them. Get the scientific community curate it.

Why girls are allowed in boys hostel but boys are not allowed in girls hostel in IITs and some of NITs. If some thing will happen to girls then govt. authority has to take responsibility of their actions. I think they won't take this responsibility. Then why they have allowed such rule in their institutions.

MBBS itself is higher education in a way. We do not need superspecialisation. What we need is a general duty doctors with MBBS level knowledge with periodical update on the trend and treatment of medical science. Each mohalla or colony should have a clinic to be operated by a doctor (private) on contract basis patient wise specially those with set up of their own and to be referred to hospitals if required. hospitals should only see referred cases .

Our own Cutting Edge Research. Dear sir To do this at least in IIT and IISC for specific branches incentives to Mtech and Phd students should be increased to 30000 and 45000 respectively as in medical field. This would be beneficial as the scenario is 1. Management jobs are paying high. 2. Psu jobs seem to be more lucrative. 3. MS at foreign universities become more lucrative. 4. Students leave Mtech in between as they get job. Thanks & Regards Your admirer

Bharat swatanatra honeke 68 sall ke badh bhee grameen aur vanavasi kshetra me doctors kee bahut kam upalabdi ke karan vaha treatment milna bahut durlabh hai. Aisa nahi ki bharat me doctors ki kami hai balki grameen aur pahadi ilakhe me jaakar koi rahana doctors pasand nahi karte hai. Mera sujav ye hi ki bharat me sabhi unuversities reservations ke madhyam se stuidents seats milte hai agar sara desh me sabhi universities me RURAL MBBS ko impliment karke jo students grameen ya pahadi kshetra me

We should develop or modify the existing engineering education programmes in India to tackle Grand Engineering Challenges (http://www.engineeringchallenges.org) in the society. I have attached commitment from US Engineering schools to President Obama, similarly it should be done in India. HRD ministry should seek commitment from engineering institutions in our country.
