A multi-lingual society recognises the importance of education in languages. While there are some interventions for appointment of language teachers and promotion of classical languages, there is no comprehensive scheme or language policy and we need to have inputs on this dimension.

While it is good that State mandates the regional language, will this give option for our children to sustain between different states. While we replicate the foreign policy we should also think that is logical and what will make sense for us to sustain. My child is in 1st standard this year and has been mandated tamil as the second language. There is possibility that my husband will get transferred to north in near future. How do i sustain my life in this situation?

Schools insists on using the 1st language as the language of communication between students and teachers. This results in focus on a single language. Schools should keep 1 week every month dedicated to either 2nd or 3rd Language being taught, as the language of communication between students and teachers. This will help bridge the gap between proficiency in all 3 languages

In this era of globilisation, language is the most powerful instrument at hand. Unfortunately, we have lagged behind in this era mainly due to weak knowledge of extra languages. I see people who shy away just because they are not verse with English. Even, North Indian shy to go to Sounth India just because of language barrier. Our government should promote learning of both regional and international languages in our schools. So that our future work force can work effectively arround the globe.
